A plethora of Mercedes-Benz models is being recalled in the United States for posing a fire risk.

An investigation from the German car manufacturer has revealed that trapped debris could damage the seal between the fuel rail and fuel injector, potentially triggering a fuel leak into the engine compartment. Leaking fuel could then contact hot parts of the engine and increase the risk of a fire. Mercedes-Benz states that a deviation in the production process meant the fuel rail and fuel injectors may not have been cleaned properly prior to assembly.

A total of 139 vehicles are involved in the recall. These include the following models:

2019 G63 AMG (2 units)
2019-2020 A220 (9 units)
2020 A35 (1 unit)
2019 C300 (1 unit)
2016 C300 (1 unit)
2020 C43 (1 unit)
2020 C63 (1 unit)
2020 CLA250 (6 units)
2019 E300 (6 units)
2020 E350 (5 units)
2020 E450 (1 unit)
2019 G550 (2 units)
2019-200 GLA250 (3 units)
2020 GLS450 (24 units)
2020 GLB250 (9 units)
2019-2020 GLC350 (48 units)
2020 GLE450 (7 units)
2020 GLS580 (2 units)
2019 AMG GT 63 (4 units)
2019 AMG GT 53 (2 units)
2020 S560 (2 units)
2020 SL550 (1 unit).

Mercedes-Benz notes that owners of impacted vehicles may notice a fuel odor if a leak occurs or see a check engine light if the fuel rail pressure deviation exceeds thresholds.

Dealerships were notified of the recall on December 17, 2021 and owners will be notified on February 8, 2022. Mercedes-Benz dealerships will replace the fuel rail and fuel injectors of affected vehicles.
