E BOLD. GO ANYWHERE. The BRABUS XLP 800 ADVENTURE: all-terrain performance without limits. 800 hp twin-turbo V8, portal axles, carbon fiber design, Masterpiece luxury. Luxury performance that knows no boundaries.
Mercedes is preparing the second body style of the latest generation G-Wagen, a bold-looking Cabriolet that, at first glance, kind of sends Landaulet vibes. This will join the regular SUV in its different configurations.
Did you notice that there isn’t a pickup truck version of the iconic G-Class in production? You probably did, yet fret not, fellow gearhead, as while the three-pointed star brand may not have your back when it comes to a workhorse based on this model, the aftermarket world has already filled up this spot. Several tuners offer pickup conversions based on the Affalterbach brand’s G 63, and one of them is Brabus.
It doesn’t necessarily have to be a four-wheel drive machine, as the famous tuner also offers a 6×6 variant of the Mercedes-AMG G 63 with an open bed behind the cockpit. The model is called the Brabus XLP 800 6×6 Adventure and it is strictly aimed at millionaires. We kid you not, while the standard G 63 starts at $186,100 in our market, excluding destination, the six-wheel drive beast costs €1,333,774.61, which equals almost $1.6 million at today’s exchange rate.
This means that for the ultra-rare Brabus XLP 800 6×6 Adventure, one can buy no fewer than EIGHT brand-new Mercedes-AMG G 63s in the United States of America. Mind you, this story does not have anything to do with the beastly 6×6 but with its smaller sibling. The project is called the Brabus XLP 800 Adventure, and we got the chance to see it for the first time a few months ago, which is when the tuner pulled the wraps off its body.
Essentially a 4×4 version of the Brabus XLP 800 6×6 Adventure, this build is based on the latest Mercedes-AMG G 63 and picks up where its predecessor left off a few years ago. The pickup conversion is the thing that makes it stand out immediately. But the open bed behind the passenger compartment is not the only special feature, as it also has a widebody kit, boasting fender flares, a new hood, different bumpers, a different grille, and several other modifications.
Wrapped around the new 9.5×22-inch wheels are the 325/55 tires that improve its prowess off the beaten path compared to the standard Mercedes-AMG G 63. The vehicle also sits higher off the ground, features a roof attachment that can be used to carry all sorts of gear, and has extra lights above the front windscreen that can easily turn night into day whenever the person holding the wheel wants to do so.
Illuminated power-retractable side steps are also included, and for easier access, the rear doors were modified to open up to 90 degrees. Once inside, you will see brand-new upholstery, which is extremely minty-looking on the pictured example, which was shared on the tuner’s social media pages not long ago. The teal leather upholstery joins some extra carbon fiber trim and the Brabus logos that decorate various components on the inside, and not only.
This wouldn’t be a complete tuning job without some extra oomph. Before revealing the revised magic numbers, we will remind you that the standard Mercedes-AMG G 63 comes with 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) of torque straight from the factory and 577 bhp (585 ps/430 kW) produced by its bi-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine. The automaker says that this model can sprint to 62 mph (100 kph) in 4.5 seconds, and that’s impressive for what is still a truck.
In Brabus’ hands, however, the output has increased to a neck-snapping 800 metric horsepower, hence the ‘800’ in its name, and this equals 788 brake horsepower and 588 kilowatts. The Brabus XLP 800 Adventure has 737 pound-feet (1,000 Nm) of torque to play with at 3,600 rpm, whereas the peak output is available at 6,600 rpm. Due to the extra features that have made it heavier, it is three-tenths of a second slower than the stock G 63, and flat-out, it can do 130 mph (210 kph).
One may wonder why we chose to revisit the Brabus XLP 800 Adventure, and there are several reasons. First and foremost, it is a breathtaking project that deserves to sit under the spotlight more. Second, it is nicely executed. Third, we can tell you how much it costs, and fourth, the tuner recently shared new images of it on social media, and we added them to the photo gallery above.
Now, before wrapping it up and proceeding to the next story, how much do you think this impressive-looking vehicle costs? The answer is €893,532.44 and comes straight from Brabus’ official website. This equals over $1 million at the current exchange rate, and while it is extremely expensive, it is over half a million dollars cheaper than its 6×6 version. If money were the least of your worries, would you get the 4×4 or the 6×6 variant of the Brabus 800 XLP Adventure?
