Over the years, AMGs have been great tire-shredding and smoke generating machines. However, one instance has caught our attention. It’s this C63 S, and it’s notable, because it has blown up. And that’s definitely not supposed to happen.

Mercedes C63s AMG Burnout fail results in engine blowing up

At first we thought it was audio dubbed over the video. The revs rise and fall in such a way that would make anyone stop for a second to figure out what’s gone wrong. But no, it turns out this video is all true after we did a little searching. As it turns out this incident happened in 2021 at a wedding in Australia.

The wedding and the location don’t matter that much, but thankfully there was a second view of the incident to verify the ordeal. So what happened? Well, we can assume the driver of this C63 S decided the very best thing to do at a friends wedding was to celebrate with a burnout. Unfortunately, he didn’t know how to do a burnout. It’s pretty clear that traction control wasn’t turned off, and all that power was being sent through the driveline while on a brake-stand. At some point, something had to give.

Based on the video below, we can see that smoke started pouring out of the left bank tail pipe just before the fire erupted. So we’re going to guess a turbo had an earlier than expected retirement. Combined with a high likelihood of over heating clutch packs in the transmission, we can assume some sort of lubricating fluids got to where it wasn’t supposed to be. And come to think of it, it probably was multiple calamities all in one. The end result? Fire.

That said, this car must have lived a very rough life to fail after less than 30 seconds of a bone headed driver trying to do a burnout. We all know the routine of turning off all the driver assist features, and then mashing the throttle. Unfortunately, that didn’t pan out.
