Mercedes-AMG G 63 4×4² Exploring The 4×4 Off-Roader

Exploring the 4×4 off-roader based on the Mercedes G63 4×4 with 850hp and 1.000Nm rolling on rims FD.15 in size 9.5×22″, rear doors be hinged at the back with unique soft closing technology, the typical roof start/stop button feature, much more to come…

Not all Mansorys are contraptions, as occasionally, this tuner surprises us in a positive way. You know, like an old wife who still loves her husband even after all those years. That said, meet the company’s latest take on the Mercedes-AMG G 63 4×4².

It’s probably due to the black color that dominates the exterior of this brutal-looking premium truck, but you probably cannot tell that it sports the usual Mansory add-ons, can you? It has attachments at both ends, a bulging hood, a roof-mounted wing, a custom spare wheel holder, and others.

Those wheels, which measure 9.5×22 inches at both axles, would have looked better on a Rolls-Royce or at least a Mercedes-Maybach (speaking of which, are you aware of the upcoming Mercedes-Maybach SL?). However, they somehow fit the menacing design and, fortunately, weren’t wrapped in rubber band tires, a move that would’ve ruined the aspect and off-roading credentials of the Mercedes-AMG G 634×4².

The coach doors are one of the highlights of this project. Mansory moved the rear door hinges from the B- to the C-pillar and repositioned the handles. Thus, the 4×4 in question sends Rolls-Royce vibes, and while its interior may not be that luxurious compared to a vehicle that was born at the Goodwood factory in England, at least it’s horrible to look at – you know, like some of Mansory’s past and present projects.

Mansory went for lots of black Alcantara sprinkled with orange piping and custom embossing. This material was wrapped around most components, including the dashboard, center console, seats, steering wheel, and so on. Orange metallic accents contribute to the vehicle’s makeover, alongside the usual Mansory special touches, including the reading on the center console that says “One of Ten” for obvious reasons.

While the standard Mercedes-AMG G 63 4×4² shares its 4.0L twin-turbo V8 motor with the regular Mercedes-AMG G 63, Mansory’s project boasts superior firepower. The tuner claims the output was bumped to 850 horses, which are likely European, translating to 838 brake horsepower and 625 kilowatts, and 738 pound-foot (1,000 Nm) of torque.

It represents a significant bump over the stock model, which enjoys 577 horsepower (585 ps/430 kW) and 627 pound-feet (850 Nm) of torque with the stock motor, which is married to a 9sp automatic transmission and four-wheel drive. The normal G 63 tops out at 137 mph (220 kph) and needs 4.5s to 60 mph (97 kph). Since it’s bigger and therefore heavier, the G 63 4×4² is slower. Nevertheless, with Mansory’s oily upgrades up and running, we reckon it comes close to the G 63’s performance.

We’re fans of the Mansory-tuned Mercedes-AMG G 63 4×4², and while the rear suicide doors may be a bit too much, at least the entire project is far from stepping over the OTT line, which is less than we can say about this tuner’s other builds. But do you also like it?
