Life comes full circle with the BUSSINK AMG GT Rote Sau edition
So here’s an interesting one. A German company called BUSSINK created this AMG special edition for Mercedes. Called the Rote Sau, it’s a throwback to the Red Pig. Ya know, the big 6.3 liter bruiser of a saloon that put AMG on the map. Additionally, Rote Sau literally translates to “Red Pig” from German.

In a beautiful culmination of fate, Mercedes commissioned a company to recreate a high performance car that was originally made by… the company Mercedes usually commissioned to build their high performance cars.

If you haven’t heard of the Rote Sau version of this car, it’s probably because fewer of these exist than even an AMG ONE. Just 5 of these were commissioned to be built by BUSSINK in 2017, in celebration of AMG’s 50th anniversary.

Starting with a 2018 Mercedes AMG GT, power was increased substantially, to over 800 horsepower. Visuals emulate the Red Pig as well, with the same #35 bubble number panels, extra driving lights, and sponsor decals. Interior panels are splashed in “Rote” as well, with steering wheel trim and center console trim bearing the crimson hue.

“Sau” is applicable to the AMG GT that it starts with. Despite the athleticism of this fast small coupe, it’s about the same weight as the big body 300 SEL that it intends to honor. 3800 pounds is a lot to hustle around. Still, the story of a fast pig is one of legendary status. And at The song remains the same.

This particular example was filmed at a place in Germany called AutoSL. Although it may look like a car show, this may actually be the showroom of AutoSL as they are a high end exotic dealership. Even though the video is quick, we see the asking price. Just shy of 390,000 Euro, which is about $420,000 for those of us here in the States.

What’s really great is knowing Mercedes still has a sense of adventure. They can give the green light to a car that essentially makes fun of itself for its own audacity. And importantly, Mercedes knows who got them to their current heights. Little did Aufrect and Melcher know what legends they would soon create.
