Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe isn’t exactly subtle. With its angry face, muscular bulges, and coupe-like roofline, the big Benz is the preferred choice of propulsion for those who like to be seen. But German tuner Manhart thinks the GLE could do with some more curb appeal, and has introduced a new GER 800 package that dials everything up to 11.
For a start, the long-living AMG 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 – which produces 603 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque from the factory – has been made more powerful. It now delivers a whopping 789 hp and 738 lb-ft, which translates to astonishing performance. The stock GLE 63 S Coupe is capable of hitting 60 mph in 3.7 seconds, so one can only imagine what the GER 800 does. Sadly, imagining is all we can do, as Manhart hasn’t published updated performance figures. For the record, the GLE Coupe was facelifted last year with minor revisions.
More Muscle From Affalterbach’s V8
The new power figures come courtesy of a Manhart turbo upgrade and an MHtronik powerbox. In certain markets, the tuner also offers 300-cell catalytic converters, but these are not approved for use in Germany. The GLE 63 is already one of the best-sounding SUVs on the market, but the OPF-delete with downpipes provides a deeper roar.
The air suspension has been modified and is now 1.18 inches lower than the standard model. Manhart can also fit new coupling rods to reduce the ride height. Under the bulging arches, you’ll find 23-inch Manhart Concave One wheels, finished in Satin Black with yellow trim. The brake calipers have been color-matched to the wheel trim. Visually, the GER 800 receives a menacing carbon fiber widebody kit from TopCar Design, known for its work with Porsche 911s.
Styling Is Not For Shrinking Violets
The result is a very aggressive-looking SUV, with carbon fiber littered across the exterior. The kit comprises wheel arch extensions, and a ducktail spoiler, along with a carbon fiber detailing on the hood, grille, and rear fascia. Manhart has added a yellow decal set that contrasts with the matte green paint.
While it’s not the last word in good taste, it’s a lot better than the black and gold color combo the brand has applied to other SUVs. Lastly, the interior receives black and yellow leather/Alcantara upholstery along with Manhart floor mats. There’s no word on pricing, but we’re guessing it won’t be cheap, as the standard GLE 63 S Coupe retails for $129,050.
