Mercedes-AMG has spruced up its portfolio with a new special edition model. Meet the 2024 Mercedes-AMG C 43 Edition R that just celebrated its introduction and is available in limited numbers.

Detailed by the Affalterbach brand’s Australian arm, the 2024 Mercedes-AMG C 43 Edition R builds on the regular sedan and sports additional gizmos. The AMG Dynamic Plus bundle is on deck with dynamic engine mounts, red brake calipers with black AMG lettering, a more special steering wheel wrapped in Nappa leather and Microcut microfiber, and a Race driving mode.

Just like the regular Mercedes-AMG C 43, the new Edition R sports the AMG Ride Control suspension with adaptive dampers. It also gets the typical exterior styling, the AMG Exterior Night Package with glossy black elements, rear-axle steering, the Night Package II with dark chrome badging and darkened grille, 20-inch bi-tone alloys, and red brake calipers.

Customers will also enjoy the AMG Track Pace. This system records a plethora of specific data when the car is abused at racetracks, including the steering angle, acceleration, speed, and brake pedal actuation. Training and analysis tools are included, and the Track Pace also displays the lap and sector times so that the person behind the wheel can improve their driving.

Opening the door of the new Mercedes-AMG C 43 Edition R will reveal the heated front sports seats wrapped in Artico and Microcut, with red inserts and stitching. The seatbelts are also red, and a metallic trim is visible on the dash and center console. The 11.9-inch central display, smartphone integration, wireless charging pad, panoramic sliding sunroof, head-up display, and a Burmester audio are standard.

Contributing to the car’s sporty nature is the AMG Performance Sound, a system that utilizes a sensor in the exhaust system that picks up the engine sound and feeds it to the cockpit. You won’t be baffled by the firepower, as it uses the same 2.0-liter four-banger as the regular C 43. The powertrain sports an exhaust gas turbocharger operated through a 48-volt electrical system and works in tandem with a 9sp automatic transmission and 4Matic all-wheel drive.

Shared with the SL 43, aka the roadster’s entry-level model, the powertrain is a bit punchier on the C 43. It is rated at 402 horsepower (408 ps/300 kW) and 367 pound-foot (500 Nm) of torque. The C 43 is two-tenths quicker from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 kph) than the SL 43, taking 4.6 seconds for the sprint, and while the roadster can push up to 170 mph (275 kph), the sporty sedan will run out of breath at 155 mph, which translates to 250 kph.

Mercedes has already started accepting orders at its AMG retailers across Australia for the new C 43 4Matic Edition R, stating that this model has an MRLP of AU$112,600 (US$75,870). The brand’s local website reveals a driveaway price of AU$123,023.78 (US$82,895). But how does it compare to the standard C 43 Sedan? Well, the latter is actually a bit more expensive than the new Edition R, as it’s listed from AU$152,844.66 (US$102,990) on Mercedes-AMG’s Aussie website.

The 2024 C 43 4Matic Sedan is also available in the United States of America. Pricing for this model starts at $60,700 (equaling AU$90,065) in our market, excluding destination and dealer fees, and Mercedes hasn’t announced anything about the Edition R at the time of writing. But would you want the company to bring the new limited edition to our shores?

Mercedes-AMG unveiled the latest iteration C 43 a little over two years ago, and it is a rival to the likes of the Audi S4 and BMW M340i xDrive. The former starts at $54,500 in the U.S., uses a turbo’d V6 with quattro all-wheel drive, and enjoys 349 hp (354 ps/260 kW) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque, taking 4.4s to reach 60 mph (97 kph). BMW’s M340i xDrive is three-tenths of a second quicker, packs a 3.0L six-pot with 382 hp (387 ps/285 kW) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm), and can be ordered from $59,600. A rear-wheel-drive version of the M340i is also available.

Telling bystanders the Mercedes-AMG C 43 is not the typical C-Class, but a sportier alternative are the AMG Panamericana grille, a more aggressive front bumper, a sporty diffuser at the rear, sporty side skirts, and two pairs of exhaust tips. The regular model rides on 18-inch alloys, but customers can upgrade to 19s and 20s as an option. Of course, there is also the possibility of opting for aftermarket alloys, and the sky is basically the limit here.

Now, you know only Mercedes Australia has announced the details of the new C 43 Sedan Edition R, stating that the car will be available in limited numbers. Nevertheless, would you want the Affalterbach brand to bring this model to the New World, too?
