Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 Recalls Because Their Windows Might Fall Out

If you’re driving down the highway, and you find yourself behind a 2024 Mercedes GLC 300, you may want to get in front of it. A total of seven examples are being recalled in the United States because their windows might not have been glued in properly, and they might fall out on the road.

A blessedly uncommon issue, Mercedes first became aware of a potential problem in September, when it noticed that something was amiss during production. Someone on the line discovered that “one window had unexpected material characteristics,” the company reported in documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Mercedes took a look at the adhesive it was using to affix windows to its vehicles, and found that its supplier, EFTEC AG, had mislabeled a batch of it. As a result of the error, the glue used on a small number of GLC 300s didn’t live up to expected specifications.

Therefore, Mercedes cannot guarantee that front, rear, and fixed side windows in vehicles affected by this issue won’t fall out. That’s a problem for a couple of reasons, and could seriously increase the risk of an accident for following vehicles if glass falls out while the vehicle is in motion.

That’s not the only issue, though. Mercedes reports that the windshield not being properly bonded to the GLC 300 could also affect its crash safety. That’s because the front airbags might not be supported by the windshield as intended if it pops out, increasing the risk of an injury.

As a result, Mercedes plans to start reaching out to affected GLC 300 owners on January 2. It will ask them to return their SUV to a nearby dealer, where the relevant windows will be replaced. It adds that a change has been made to its supplier’s production process to ensure that such an error doesn’t happen again.
