It was the first school day in the United States of America and Mercedes-Benz USA donated backpacks to the students of public school in Atlanta. The premium car maker is thus trying to help kids kick off school the right way.

Mercedes-Benz USA donated hundreds of backpacks to students of the Atlanta Public Schools on the first day of school. Approximately 1,600 pupils received one. The students of the Leonora P. Miles Elementary School and Michael R. Hollis Innovation Academy were among the lucky ones that got one. The backpacks were filled with school supplies that will help the young students throughout the school year.

The car company also provided a fleet of vehicles and a team of volunteers. They all worked all day long for assisting in passing the backpacks out to the parents and students. In order to follow the guidelines of social distancing, it was a low-contact drive-through even.

The program is part of the Atlanta Public Schools Runway Week’s Pop Up Back-to-School Bash. The program targets the preparations of staff and the fostering of connections with students, Atlanta Daily World local website writes. It is also part of the Curbside Caring initiative of Mercedes-Benz USA, an extension of its Greatness Lives Here program. The donations reached many students in need, who come from families with limited financial resources.

“We are so excited that Mercedes-Benz is here with us, giving out supplies from these wonderful vehicles, partnering with us and making our students’ dreams come true,” Principal Thalise Perry stated in a news release.

Mercedes-Benz also donated 90 meals for teachers and school staff on the first day of school.
