Limited to just 80 units, the CLK AMG DTM Convertible remains one of the most distinctive and sought-after AMG creations.
Built to Celebrate a Championship
In 2003, Mercedes-Benz clinched victory in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) championship, and to commemorate the achievement, they created a special road car: the CLK AMG DTM. Only 100 coupes and 80 convertibles were produced for the public, making it one of the rarest Mercedes performance cars ever built. When introduced, the convertible version was the fastest four-seat open-top car available, a title that underlined its extreme capabilities.
Performance Beyond the Ordinary
Far from a typical CLK, the CLK AMG DTM Convertible is powered by a 5.4-liter supercharged V8 that produces a staggering 582 horsepower and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque. This powerhouse launches the car from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in around 4 seconds and pushes it past a top speed of 186 mph (300 km/h). As Mercedes once put it, the DTM is “uncompromising” in its approach to delivering performance.
Race-Ready Design
Visually, the DTM Convertible leaves no doubt about its racing pedigree. It wears dramatically flared wheel arches, aggressive front and rear fascias, and rides on unique 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels. A fixed rear wing and twin exhaust outlets complete the bold transformation from the regular CLK. Every exterior element was crafted to improve performance and handling rather than to serve purely aesthetic purposes.
Interior: Focused and Functional
Inside, the cabin continues the theme of focused minimalism. Lightweight, fixed-back carbon fiber racing seats trimmed in leather and blue Alcantara dominate the front. As for the rear, conventional seating is absent; instead, an Alcantara-covered carbon fiber bulkhead saves weight and hints at the car’s track-oriented intent. This minimalist layout underscored the DTM Convertible’s priorities: performance first, comfort second.
A Globe-Trotting Example
One particular example of the CLK DTM Convertible tells a story of international travel. Delivered new in Germany in 2006, the car later found its way to a museum in South Korea before returning to Europe in 2016. Finished in Obsidian Black and showing fewer than 22,000 kilometers (about 13,600 miles) on the odometer, it remains in exceptionally preserved condition. As Broad Arrow Auctions, which is offering the car for sale, describes it, this CLK represents “a spectacular machine” from AMG’s golden era.
Collector’s Dream
With only 80 units ever built for public sale, opportunities to own a CLK AMG DTM Convertible are exceedingly rare. Estimates suggest that this particular car could fetch between €450,000 and €550,000 ($512,000 to $627,000). For collectors and enthusiasts alike, securing one of these convertibles means acquiring a true piece of German motorsport history.
