Mercedes-Benz CLK DTM AMG P900 Hits The Auction Block

Bonhams Cars is gearing up to auction a rare piece of Mercedes-Benz and AMG history, the 2005 Mercedes-Benz CLK DTM AMG P900 Prototype. The model links the three-pointed star marque’s DTM race cars and high-performance road-legal cars.
 

There were only 100 CLK DTM cars in history. However, Mercedes only created two prototypes of the P900.
 
Outside the one at Bonhams, the other currently sits in a US museum. This means that the unit offered by the auctioneer would be the only one available for private collectors.
 

Powertrain
Under the hood of the P900 Prototype is an M156 6.3L V8 engine. The product was AMG’s first entirely in-house powertrain.
 
The prototype produces up to 510 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque. The M156 has lesser output than the supercharged unit in the road-going CLK DTM, but it later achieved widespread attention when it found its way to the 2007 Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG.
 

Motorsport-Inspired Design
Mercedes channeled AMG’s motorsport DNA in the P900 Prototype’s styling. It features an aggressive rear spoiler and a minimalist interior with roll cage to optimize track performance and safety.
 
The auto had only 577 kilometers (358.53 miles) on its odometer. The vehicle has been notably driven by racing legends such as Klaus Ludwig and Jean Alesi, further cementing its motorsport pedigree.
 
Bonhams Cars will auction the rare P900 Prototype at The Grand Palais Historique in Paris on February 6 this year at 12:00 CET. The auctioneer expects to fetch up to $821,000 for the product.
