This Brilliant Silver Metallic 2004 Mercedes S500 was purchased new from a Beverly Hills dealership by none other than Michael Richards, whose masterful portrayal of the character “Kramer” on the hit TV series Seinfeld has inspired entire generations of comedy aficionados.
The car is currently up for grabs at auction, and my guess is that interesting trades sadly will not be considered, although if you happen to own screen legend Anthony Quinn’s undershirt, who knows what might happen?
Now, should you end up with the winning bid, I can already hear your friends asking: You bought a car because it was owned by Kramer?! To which you should probably say “yes”, enthusiastically. Besides, the W220-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class is still a heck of a machine. This thing is bullet proof from a reliability standpoint, especially by today’s standards.
Richards even took the time to respond to bidders in the ad’s comments section, stating: “Well, thanks for watching the show! It was a great chapter in my life. I cover a lot of it in my book. I included a signed edition with my Mercedes. I must say, it’s a great car.”
He pretty much had no choice but to thank people for watching the show after being bombarded with countless car-related quotes from the TV series – they’re all funny though, and as you can see, I couldn’t help myself either. As for the book he’s referring to, it’s called Entrances and Exits, and it came out back in June of 2024.
Back to his car, it appears to be in reasonably good shape, despite having roughly 76,000 miles on the clock and various aesthetic flaws, but nothing major.
Its best exterior features include the soft-close doors, sunroof, bi-xenon headlights, tinted windows, plus the 18” AMG monoblock wheels, which were allegedly sourced from a slightly older model S-Class. Nothing wrong with that.
Richards’ S500 also comes with an Airmatic suspension which boasts adaptive damping and selectable sport modes. I’m not sure if you’ve driven a W220 before, but they truly are supremely comfortable, whether you’re on the highway traveling longer distances, or simply maneuvering around from A to B in a busy urban environment.
Moving on to the interior, highlights include the black Nappa leather 14-way power-adjustable front seats (also heated), the burl walnut wood trim accents, a Bose sound system, dual-zone automatic climate control, an electric rear sunshade, and plenty of other amenities that were considered luxurious by mid-2000s standards.
As for the power unit, it’s a 5.0-liter V8 with 302 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque. Everything gets sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed 7G-Tronic automatic gearbox. While those old 7G-Tronic transmissions were focused more on refinement than raw performance, you should still be able to hit 60 mph (97 kph) in about 6 seconds or so with a W220 S500.
Everybody’s talking at me. I can’t hear a word they’re saying. Just driving around in Michael Richards’ car…
