Mercedes is back with a new Electric G-Class taking luxury off road to the next level. The Mercedes EQG we have today has four electric motors underneath along with a very large battery pack.

The New Mercedes EV is a Luxury Stair Climber – (Sneak Peak!)

The all-electric Mercedes-Benz EQG is shaping up to be the car manufacturer’s most capable off-roader and popular YouTuber JerryRigEverything has had the chance to see what it is all about.

Given that the German carmaker is still testing and developing the EQG, the YouTuber had to head over to Graz, Austria to check out one of the prototypes. While there, he was able to see some of the incredible off-roading feats that the EQG can achieve thanks to its utilization of four electric motors with one at each wheel.

Vehicles like the Rivian R1T and GMC Hummer EV have shown us all just how well-suited electric motors are for off-roaders. Not only does relying on motors mean you don’t need traditional differentials (ICE-powered G-Class models have three) but the motors are more versatile and can be configured for all kinds of different terrain.

In this entertaining clip, JerryRigEverything showcases the EQG’s ‘G-Turn’ feature that allows it to do donuts by spinning the wheels in different directions. However, that’s not the coolest thing the Mercedes can achieve. It has such incredible amounts of traction that it can be driven halfway down a steep and muddy decline and then reverse back up with ease.

The EQG even has a feature could ‘Creep’ mode that can be activated at the touch of a button and works similarly to a hill decent control, except for the fact that it is designed to go up hills. Yep, press a button and the EQB will literally drive up steep terrain for you.

Many key details about the Mercedes EQG remain under wraps, including just how much horsepower and torque it has, as well as how big its battery pack is and what the range will be. However, we expect to hear more about these details as we edge toward its launch in 2024.
