Yesterday (22 March) I filmed the new 2024 Mercedes EQG on the Nurburgring. While filming at Adenauer Forst the car lost power. At first I thought a problem with the battery but when I walked to the car you heard a weird noise. What do you think is wrong with it? Clutch, Or maybe just a rock in the brakes? Another test driver from Land Rover came tried to help de Mercedes. But that didnt work. So the mechanics of Mercedes were called and came to the rescue. I didnt recorded this all out of respect to the employees.

Mercedes EQG EV Breaks Down At The Nurburgring While Testing

It’s not really new for test vehicles to break down along the way. After all, they are constantly pushed to their limit to check how far could they go and to determine whether or not there are serious issues that need to be addressed before their rollout to customers. This is exactly what happened to a Mercedes-Benz EQG that was recently being test driven at the Nurburgring endurance track.

In the video uploaded by Carspotter Jeroen, the EQG can be seen in partial camouflage, hence, revealing that it retains the key styling elements of the G-Class it is based on. It’s still boxy and accentuated by its rigid body lines. There may just be some tweaks on the hood and back to differentiate the petrol and electric vehicle variants. Of course, since this is all-electric, it’s missing the signature exhausts of the G-Wagen.

The video starts by showing the EQG making its rounds on the track together with a Porsche. However, it suddenly stalls. According to Carspotter Jeroen, these all happened along the Adenauer Forst. He said he does not know what caused the problem but he ruled out a possible battery issue since it can be heard making a weird noise before stalling. The uploader suspects that it could either be the clutch breaking down or debris, possibly a rock, getting in the brakes.

During the stop, a test driver from Land Rover even attempted to help the Mercedes-Benz EQG driver but to no avail. Although not recorded in the video, Mercedes mechanics arrived on the scene later on to fix the problem. So far, there’s no detail as to whether or not they were able to get the EV running again.
