2027 Mercedes E-Class With EQ Technology Is The EQE’s Successor

It’s not only the EQS Sedan that’s going away after the current generation, but also the smaller EQE Sedan. Mercedes plans to replace these models with zero-emission versions of the S-Class and E-Class, respectively.

The latter was spied undergoing testing earlier this month, revealing that it will leave the blob-like design behind it. It’s called the Mercedes-Benz E-Class with EQ Technology, to absolutely no one’s surprise, and wants to fix everything about its predecessor, especially the design part, which, let’s be honest, hasn’t won the EQE any beauty pageants and never will.

Spied testing in Europe’s frozen north, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class with EQ Technology is home to the so-called “iconic grille,” which sports a lot of chrome on it. This part looks similar to the one on the electric GLC and should be a thing on the future S-Class with EQ Technology and C-Class with EQ Technology. An illuminated version of the grille will also be available, albeit probably as an optional extra.

The prototype had provisional lights installed at the front and rear, though make no mistake, as these will be star-infused on the final production car. The profile is pretty much an evolution of the current E-Class. It’s great to see traditional side mirrors instead of cameras, yet the door handles are not on the classic side of things anymore, as they sport a new design.

The car will pretty much look like the one rendered here by the folks at Kolesa, whose pixel master analyzed the scoops and created these realistic digital illustrations. We still haven’t gotten a look inside, but the future all-quiet E-Class is believed to be home to three major screens and will probably have a setup similar to the one of the new-age CLA. Some say that a massive 39.1-inch display might be on deck, too, but we will believe it when we see it.

An 800-volt electrical architecture and fast charging up to 300 kW are rumored to be found on the future E-Class EQ. It is possible that lesser versions of the car will feature a single-motor setup, whereas superior ones will likely get a dual-motor assembly with all-wheel drive. The model is believed to be based on the MB.EA architecture, so it will have more in common with the zero-emission GLC than the aforementioned grille.

Mercedes’ E-Class with EQ Technology is understood to be a couple of years away from hitting dealerships, but we wouldn’t be surprised at all if the three-pointed star company delays it in order to milk the current EQE Sedan as much as it can. Nevertheless, the car itself is believed to look about the same as the one rendered here, and we think it’s not bad at all. What say you?
