For over 50 years, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class has been one of the best European luxury cars money can buy. While the current E-Class is now in its 5th-generation with a plethora of different engines to choose from, we spend a week with the sweet spot in the lineup, a 2021 E450 with standard 4Matic AWD. It has a new 362 HP electrified and turbocharged straight 6-cylinder engine and up to 30 MPG on the highway.

Mercedes-Benz E 450 4Matic is a Perfected Modern Luxury Sedan By Redline Reviews

Mercedes-Benz rarely shoots and misses with its new vehicles and by all accounts, the facelifted 2021 E-Class ticks all the right boxes.

The current W213-generation E-Class has been on the market since 2016 and while it still feels very fresh, the facelift brings with it a host of upgrades that gives the luxury sedan a unique appeal over its rivals from BMW and Audi.

In this video from Redline Reviews, we have the chance to check out the E 450 4Matic variant in detail. We have a bit of experience with the new E-Class ourselves, having driven a Euro-spec E 200 model in the latter half of 2020, but this review provides key details for the North American models that are available.

Driving the E 450 4Matic is a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six that comes complete with the automaker’s EQ Boost 48-volt mild-hybrid system. It pumps out a total of 362 hp between 5,500 and 6,100 rpm and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque between 1,600 rpm and 4,500 rpm, impressive figures when you consider there are more performance-focused versions of the E-Class also available.

Mercedes-Benz produces some of the finest interiors on the market, so it’s no surprise that the cabin of the new E-Class is extremely plush and a great place to spend time in. So, all things considered, if you’re in the market for a luxury mid-size saloon, you really can’t go wrong with the E 450 4Matic.
