Mercedes-Benz CLK DTM AMG Could Fetch A Fortune

A 1 of 6 right-hand drive Mercedes-Benz CLK DTM AMG promises to snag top dollar.

Back in the mid-to-late 2000s, Stuttgart bent to fan demand and built a soft-top version of its super-special W209 Mercedes-Benz CLK DTM AMG. Mercedes-Benz limited production to just 80 units, 20 fewer than the hardtop coupe variant of the tire-eviscerating coupe.

Now, however, PistonHeads UK is presenting an even rarer affair: a right-hand drive version to tackle the Old World streets. See, while Mercedes-Benz made 80 copies of the soft-top CLK DTM AMG, only six feature a right-side-oriented steering wheel.

Moving the steering wheel over to the other side didn’t make the CLK DTM AMG Cabriolet any less ferocious, though. Under the hood, the one-of-six AMG model packs a supercharged 5.4L V8 producing 574 bhp.

The admittedly polarizing bodywork does more than create the appearance of a CLK convertible that spent too time at the gym. It also conceals wide rubber, stiffened suspension, and large, aggressive brakes– a must to control and stop the kind of thrust that will send the CLK DTM AMG Cabriolet to 60 mph from a standstill in four seconds.

And this one has a lot of life left to live on the left-hand side of the road. In addition to a service history dating back to 2008, the Iridium Silver convertible displays just 28,500 miles on the clock. As you might expect, this one won’t come cheap.

U.S. Left-Hand Drive Models for Up to $500K
As a specialized AMG model with only 80 units to its name, the W209 Mercedes-Benz CLK DTM AMG Cabriolet doesn’t sell for cheap. That is, when one comes up for sale in the first place.

Earlier this year, an Obsidian Black 2006 model with around 19,000 miles sold for an eye-watering €483,125 (about $559,732). Another left-hand-drive example was sold more recently for €445,000 (about $505,966 at the time) in Italy.

However, with just six of these right-hand drive versions out there, this one is likely to fetch a massive sum.
