One of the 951 Mercedes E 500 Limited edition cars is for sale on the FormulaAuctions.com auction site. The auction closes on 8 June 2023.

Porsche built 10,479 Mercedes E 500/500 E examples from spring 1991 to April 1995. Originally a limited run of 500 Mercedes E 500 Limited units was planned but eventually, 951 examples were built.

One of these examples is for sale on the FormulaAuctions.com auction site. It has 128,000 km on board (79,500 miles), was produced in 1994, and was imported from Japan to Alberta, Canada about 10 years ago by the current owner.

The Mercedes E 500 Limited is differentiated from the E 500 by its Evo II 17-inch light alloy wheels, two-tone leather upholstery with gray, green, or red front and rear center seat area and door panels, and bird’s eye maple wood inserts on the dashboard and doors.

The car offered at auction has red leather upholstery in the center seat area and on the door panels but this is aged in the seat area and needs to be refurbished. But at least it is the original upholstery of the car. However, the steering wheel and shift knob partially in wood trim are not the original ones.

The Mercedes E 500 also features a white background instrument cluster with a speedometer graduated up to 300 km/h, a red-zone tachometer starting at 7000 rpm, and an AMG-inscribed stainless steel pedals. The car is equipped with electrically adjustable and heated front seats, automatic climate control, autopilot, and Sony aftermarket radio.

Compared to the Mercedes W124, the E 500 has 38 mm wider track and a 23 mm lower suspension, but the car offered at auction has an even lower suspension as it is equipped with the AMG suspension from the E 60 AMG.

Working under the hood is the SL 500’s M119 5-liter V8 M119 engine that sends its maximum output of 326 ps (322 hp) and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) of torque to the rear axle through a 4-speed automatic transmission.

The body is painted in the original Sapphire Black (009), but the owner mentions that it has been repainted while retaining the original shade. There are also some rock chips in the front. The Continental ExtremeContact 245/45 tires are as new.

In the sale ad it is also mentioned that in 2021 the power steering/SLS tandem pump of this vehicle was replaced and that there is a small oil leak from the oil pan.

The Mercedes E 500 was built by Porsche because it didn’t fit on the production line of the Sindelfingen plant. You can read the whole history of the production method here, which was a unique process in the history of the automobile.

The auction for this example will close on June 8th, at the time of writing the price is $26,378.
