One of just 13 Mercedes-Benz AMG ‘Hammer’ sedans built in North America is heading to auction on March 4 and is said to sell for between $575,000 and $625,000.

The hugely desirable Mercedes you’re looking at left the Mercedes-Benz factory as a 300 E sedan that carried with it a sticker price of $39,500. When it landed in the U.S., it was sent to the headquarters of AMG North America in Westmont, Illinois and for the price of $97,988, was transformed into the wild creation you now see.

The Broad Arrow Auctions listing reveals that the car underwent recent restoration work led by Hartmurt Feyhl, the former AMG employee who actually transformed this very 300 E into a Hammer all those years ago. Feyhl spent 12 years working at AMG and then went on to form RENNtech in the United States, which handled the recent restoration.

In transforming the car into a Hammer, AMG North America fitted it with a 6.0-liter naturally-aspirated V8. The company also changed the heads to a twin-cam, four-valve setup and coupled the V8 to a new transmission. In its heyday, the car pumped out an impressive 385 hp and 417 lb-ft (564 Nm) of torque, more than double the original horsepower and torque figures.

Various other upgrades were made to the car. This includes the fitment of new sports suspension, 17-inch chrome-plated wheels, the complete Hammer aero body package, a host of wood trims throughout the cabin (including the shift knob), and a large battery that now sits in the trunk.

Recent restoration work conducted by RENNtech cost a cool $79,000 and the car now has 32,586 miles (52,422 km) on the clock. While you may be shocked to hear that the car could sell for as much as $625,000, a similar 6.0 Hammer Coupe sold for $761,800 in August last year.
