Buying a car online can feel like a coin toss. You may come across plenty of dream machines, but every so often one turns out to be a nightmare. So which side of the coin does this 2024 Mercedes-Maybach S 580 land on? During its brief history, it had 12 very intense hours.
This 2024 Mercedes-Maybach S 580 4Matic Sedan is finished in Cirrus Silver Metallic from the factory but is currently wearing a black-and-silver exterior film, over a matching black interior.
It is an ultra-luxurious sedan that brings together Mercedes-Benz engineering with Maybach’s legendary craftsmanship. What truly sets this example apart is the twist in its tale. It was stolen in February 2025, recovered within 12 hours, and is now being offered for sale with its history fully documented.
The current owner purchased this S 580 brand-new in November 2023 and has added about 9,000 miles since. When it was stolen earlier this year, it was towed and recovered the same day without any damage.
The Carfax report confirms the theft recovery. To further reassure potential buyers, the listing includes a Lemon Squad pre-purchase inspection. The seller adds some additional details about how the car has been kept.
Because the garage was occupied by another vehicle, this Maybach was parked outside for much of its life. The hood is wrapped, and the visible dent came from a piece of tree debris. “I didn’t sign up for the wheel and tire protection package. And just to confirm, the scratches are only on the wrap, not the paint,” the seller clarified.
Under the hood, the S 580 comes with the 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that produces 496 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. A 48-volt mild-hybrid system can add up to 21 horsepower and 184 pound-feet for brief bursts of acceleration. The powertrain makes the Maybach feel like brute force with refined manners.
A nine-speed automatic transmission puts the power down with the help of the 4Matic all-wheel-drive system. The result is a luxury sedan that feels both powerful and composed, equally happy soaking up the miles or overtaking in the blink of an eye. After all, the Maybach sedan is the kind of car that can glide silently down the boulevard yet rocket past slower traffic with effortless authority.
Comfort is where the Maybach truly shines. This car rides on an air suspension system and features rear-wheel steering, which allows it to ride with supreme smoothness while also feeling remarkably maneuverable for its size.
Inside, luxury and comfort make the rules. The front and rear seats are heated, ventilated, and power-adjustable. Rear passengers enjoy a dedicated entertainment system, power-operated sunshades, and the kind of amenities expected from Mercedes-Benz’s exclusive division, while seated in individual seats fit for royalty.
The cabin also features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, while the 12.8-inch MBUX touchscreen controls most functions of the luxury sedan, either via taps on the display or by saying “Hey, Mercedes” to activate the voice assistant.
This S 580 has only minor cosmetic flaws to note. There are small chips, scratches, and imperfections in the wrap, though the seller emphasizes that the underlying paint is unaffected. A dent on the hood came from falling tree debris, while the wheels show signs of curb rash.
Inside, there are some scratches on the upholstery and the rear center console, as pictured in the inspection report. Except for the wrap, the car remains completely stock. The future owner can reverse it to its factory look anytime.
Recent maintenance records show this Maybach has been well cared for. In August 2024, at 6,673 miles, it received new front struts, a replacement air filter, and computer reprogramming. At 8,579 miles, in August 2025, the engine oil and filter were changed, along with new wiper blades. Two keys and the original owner’s manuals will accompany the sale.
One detail worth noting is that there is still a loan on the vehicle, which means that sale proceeds will be used to satisfy the balance, after which the title can be transferred to the winning bidder.
While this example comes with a theft recovery on its history, it has been thoroughly inspected, remains accident-free, and has been maintained on schedule.
For buyers seeking the ultimate expression of the modern S-Class, and who don’t mind an action-packed story attached to their car, this Maybach offers a rare opportunity to purchase a nearly new example at a potentially attractive value.
In a market where most lightly used Maybachs command six-figure asking prices, the auction format may prove a golden opportunity for a savvy bidder. The Mercedes-Maybach S580 starts at $203,500 in the US.
With five days to go to the end of the auction, the highest bid for this 2024 example reached $61,000. Something tells us the final stretch will be a nail-biter. We’ll keep you posted.
