Having a certain number of LEDs inside a vehicle can create a more pleasant atmosphere at night, but we wonder if anyone has looked at the new Mercedes-Benz G-Class and thought that it needs enhanced mood lighting.

Well, Schawe Car Design does, hence their illuminated air vents for the dashboard. The German tuner’s plug-and-play system is based on the OEM parts and integrates the commands into the infotainment system. Thus, customers can choose between 64 different colors with various amounts of dimming.

Ordering the ‘Extension LED Ambient Lighting’ for the G-Wagen will set you back €1,100 ($1,343) in Germany, including tax and shipping costs, plus another €400 ($488) for the installation. Overall, that’s not bad for a vehicle that starts at nearly €100,000 (~$122,000) locally in the G350d variant, which uses a 2.9-liter turbodiesel with 286 PS (282 HP / 210 kW) and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque.

The aftermarket upgrade suits all versions of the new G-Class, including the G400d, G500 and the range-topping AMG G63, which is priced at €154,309 ($188,344) in Germany. The AMG G63 has an MSRP of $156,450 in the U.S. and is powered by a twin-turbo, 4.0-liter V8 with 577 HP and 627 lb-ft (849 Nm). It needs 4.5 seconds to accelerate from zero to 60 mph (100 km/h) and can hit a top speed of 149 mph (240 km/h) when equipped with the optional AMG Driver’s Package.
