The electric revolution is underway at Mercedes-Benz USA as the company has announced the 2022 EQS will start at $102,310.
Set to arrive at dealerships this fall, the EQS will be offered in three different trims with two different powertrains.
The company hasn’t released full details, but entry-level Premium variants will feature a panoramic sunroof as well as 20- or 21-inch alloy wheels. Buyers will also find heated / ventilated leather front seats, a 64-color ambient lighting system and a Burmester surround sound system.
The EQS 450+ Premium comes equipped with a 12.8-inch infotainment system, while the $119,110 EQS 580 4MATIC Premium features the massive MBUX Hyperscreen. The latter consists of a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 17.7-inch infotainment system and a 12.3-inch display for the front passenger.
Buyers will also find a wireless smartphone charger, an AIRMATIC suspension, and a Parking Package with a surround view system. The model also comes equipped with a Driver Assistance Package that includes Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, Active Stop-and-Go Assist, Active Steering Assist, and Active Brake Assist with a Cross-Traffic Function. They’re joined by Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Speed Limit Assist with Traffic Sign Assist, and Active Blind Spot Assist with Exit Warning. The model also has Car-to-X communications technology, PRE-SAFE PLUS with PRE-SAFE Sound, and PRE-SAFE Impulse Side.
Buyers looking for more luxury can upgrade to the Exclusive trim, which costs $105,710 for the EQS 450+ and $122,510 for the EQS 580 4MATIC. It builds on the Premium trim by adding a head-up display and multicontour front seats with a massage function. The trim also has an air balance package, a four-zone climate control system and rapid heating for the front seats.
Lastly, there’s the range-topping Pinnacle trim which costs $108,510 on the EQS 450+ and $125,310 on the EQS 580 4MATIC. Designed to appeal to customers who are chauffeured, the luxurious variant adds heated / ventilated power rear seats with memory and comfort headrests. They’re joined by extra USB-C ports and a comfort rear center armrest with a wireless smartphone charger.
The EQS 450+ has a 107.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which powers a rear-mounted electric motor that develops 329 hp (245 kW / 334 PS) and 419 lb-ft (568 Nm) of torque. This enables the model to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in approximately 5.9 seconds, before hitting an estimated top speed of 130 mph (209 km/h).
The EQS 580 4MATIC, on the other hand, has a dual motor all-wheel drive system that produces 516 hp (385 kW / 523 PS) and 631 lb-ft (856 Nm) of torque. This lowers the 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time to around 4.1 seconds, while the top speed remains unchanged.
The EPA hasn’t released ranges for the EQS, but the model can travel up to 487 miles (784 km) under the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure. Regardless of the final numbers, the EV can go from a 10-80% charge in as little as 31 minutes with a DC fast charger. With a 240V/32A wallbox, it takes around 11.25 hours to go from a 10-100% charge. Speaking of charging, buyers will receive free unlimited 30-minute DC fast charging sessions at Electrify America stations for two years.
Note: Prices excluding a $1,050 destination and delivery charge
