The new Mercedes EQS allows over-the-air updates like computer programs. The integral steering with a steering angle of 4.5 degrees is standard while the fintegral steering with a steering angle of 10 degrees can be activated over the air after purchasing the car for a subscription of 489 euros per year.

Built on the new dedicated MEA (internal code EVA II) electrical platform, the Mercedes EQS is the first model in the digital age from Mercedes. Thus, various functions can be activated over the air after purchasing the car.

The idea is simple but the transition to the new digital age has not been easy. The so-called digital cars have as standard all the hardware components and certain functions such as various assistance systems (see Tesla) or comfort functions can be activated for a monthly or annual fee.

For over-the-air upgrades to be possible, these cars must have an eSIM 4G card on board, as is the case with the Mercedes EQS. If Tesla is currently offering updates for assistance systems, Mercedes is offering an update to the new EQS for the drive train. EQS benefits from a standard integral steering with a steering angle of 4.5 degrees while the integral steering with a steering angle of 10 degrees can be activated for an annual fee of 489 euros.

For this update to be possible, you must have previously opted for the parking package and the 360-degree camera and give up mixed tires. Is the same case of the S-Class.

The mbpassion website explains how to activate the full over the air integral steering. The integral steering with a steering angle of 10 degrees is activated through the Mercedes me account. Activation occurs after the ignition is turned off for 120 seconds and then restarted. The update confirmation appears on the multimedia system screen.

The integral steering with a steering angle of 10 degrees can be purchased either by annual subscription at the price of 489 euros or by three-year subscription at the price of 1189 euros.

Of course, there will also be the option to be ordered when purchasing the car, just like with the new S-Class. It is not known how much the integral steering will cost at EQS if you want to buy it from the beginning. At S-Class it costs 1547 euros for both 4.5 degrees and 10 degrees angle. The parking package with 360 degrees camera costs 1130.50 euro (not necessary for the 4.5 degrees angle).

Is such an update over the air useful?
If you do not want to spend the money from the beginning it is an advantage to be able to benefit from this option later but also from other options. If you want to see the difference from the 4.5 degree version, it is an interesting option to experience the 10 degree angle steerring for a year at 30% of the price if you bought it when you bought the car.
