Mercedes-Benz has officially kicked off sales of the AMG GT 63 S E Performance in Europe and launched a flagship variant dubbed the AMG Special Edition.

The car was unveiled at last year’s Munich Motor Show and with the exception of the AMG Project One, is the most expensive production vehicle ever produced by Mercedes. European prices start at €196,897 (~$221,000) and jump to €218,674 (~$245,000) for the AMG Special Edition.

Differentiating the Special Edition from the standard model is the Green Hell Magno paint contrasted by 21-inch AMG forged wheels with a black finish. The Special Edition model is also offered in Rubellite Red with high-gloss chrome exterior accents and 21-inch AMG forged wheels with a high-sheen silver finish.

Powering the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance is a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 coupled to an electric motor at the rear axle. This motor works alongside an electrically shifted two-speed transmission and an electronically controlled limited-slip differential. Combined, the V8 and the electric motor deliver 831 hp and more than 1,023 lb-ft (1,400 Nm) of torque.

Mercedes says its latest super sedan needs just 2.9 seconds to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) and can sprint through to 196 mph (316 km/h). Perhaps even more impressive than these figures is the fact that it returns 27 mpg (8.6l/100 km) over the combined cycle. The 6.1 kWh battery pack also provides the GT 63 S E Performance with 7.4 miles (12 km) of all-electric range.

The car also comes standard with various performance components. These include the AMG Ride control+ multi-chamber air suspension with electronically-controlled adjustable damping and carbon-ceramic brakes with 420 mm front discs and six-piston calipers operating alongside 380 mm rear discs with single-piston calipers.
