Mercedes has a lot on its plate these days, as it is in the process of renewing its lineup. This also applies to its flagship sedan, the S-Class, and it’s only the regular Benz models that are being facelifted, but also the performance-oriented AMG and the luxury-focused Maybachs.
Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Facelifted Takes A Digital Swing At The Rolls-Royce Ghost
Most coverage of the upcoming Mercedes S-Class revolves around the regular Benz. However, in a couple of instances, we have also seen some unofficial digital illustrations of the brand’s rival to the likes of the Rolls-Royce Ghost and Bentley Flying Spur. And it is this model that has been rendered yet again, this time by Evren Ozgun Spy Sketch, who compiled the CGIs into a clip and released it on YouTube recently.
Could this new rendering take on the facelifted Mercedes-Maybach S-Class be on to something? Well, on a small portion, yes, but in essence, the model won’t exactly look identical. The grille is somewhat accurate, as it was inspired by the Vision Iconic Concept and harks back to some of the automaker’s models from a few decades ago. The shape of the headlights will probably be different, and as you already know, these will feature star-shaped LED DRLs.
The same goes for the taillights, which will be different on the production variant, and this also applies to their graphics. We are not convinced that the front and rear bumpers will look like this, nor that it will feature those quirky trim elements on the doors, and the integrated ducktail spoiler. The Maybach logo still decorates the rear pillars, and the rendered car sits on a pair of very familiar wheels.
A new MBUX infotainment system will be found inside, as we have learned from the latest scoops, but again, we are convinced that it will be as wide as the one depicted here. This CGI-infused 2027 or 2028 Mercedes-Maybach S-Class has a pair of air vents below the screen, some buttons further down, a familiar three-spoke steering wheel, and some fine leather upholstery, which will clearly be standard. After all, this is an S-Class, and, more importantly, a Maybach that we are talking about.
Mercedes vows to keep its large powertrains alive for as long as possible, where the market regulations allow it. Therefore, we expect the facelifted Maybach S-Class to still be offered with a handcrafted V12 engine in the range-topping member of the series, known as the S 680, whereas the S 580 should still come with a familiar bi-turbo V8. We do not know when this updated model is due, yet the regular Benz will likely launch for the 2027 model year in the States. As a result, we expect the Maybach models to follow, perhaps for the 2028 model year.
