2024 Mercedes-AMG G 63 Carlex’s Yachting Edition More Opulent

Don’t even think about mentioning Mansory or Keyvany because we said opulent, not ugly. Albeit not that over the top compared to some of their previous builds, Carlex Design’s Yachting Edition version of the latest Mercedes-AMG G 63 boasts a sailing theme, and we absolutely love the interior.
 

Completely reupholstered by the tuner, the cockpit boasts white leather upholstery on the door cards, seats, center console, steering wheel, roof, and pillars. It also brings a lot of wood trim for the floors, steering wheel, cargo area, and several other components. The tuner has the impression that the modern-day G-Wagen is a racer in disguise, so they gave this project a pair of bucket seats for the driver and front passenger. Their logo is also visible throughout the interior, and from what we can tell, it rounds off the makeover.
 
For such a bold cockpit, one might expect the exterior to be just as daring. But it’s not. In fact, Carlex Design only took care of a few aspects, like the front grille, lower parts of the doors, and rear spare wheel holder, which bear their signature. The multi-spoke alloys that spin around the red brake calipers send rallying vibes, and they may not be the first choice when it comes to the Mercedes-AMG G 63, but we’ve seen worse, like far worse. As a final touch, the tuner painted the entire exterior in a dark shade of blue that works very well with the maritime theme of the 4×4.
 

To be honest, we think the original Yachting Edition version of the Mercedes-AMG G 63 unveiled by Carlex Design over four years ago, when they first came up with this project, was better looking. That one had a two-tone exterior design mixing silver on the lower parts and black on the upper parts of the body. Their logo bedecked the hood, and the premium truck rode on different wheels with a far more appealing design. If anything, that one was more opulent than the one pictured above in the gallery, and the exterior was more suitable to the yachting theme.
 
There is no reference to the power, so the bi-turbo 4.0-liter V8 is probably stock. This means 577 hp (585 ps/430 kW) and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) for 0-62 mph (0-100 kph) in 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 137 mph (220 kph). This SUV has only the delivery miles on the odo, Carlex claims, and it is for sale. It’s worth noting that the tuner will let it go with the original wheels, as this aftermarket set is sold separately. As for the asking price, you’re looking at a whopping €329,000 ($357,545), or almost double the MSRP of the G 63 stateside.
