Mercedes-Maybach Metris Van For A Little Over $180,000

While Maybach has pledged to widen its model range, it has yet to enter the minivan segment. A Mercedes-Benz Metris owner was unsatisfied with that so he opted for a bespoke Maybach-style conversion, creating a unique luxury van.

The vehicle is based on a humble 2021 Mercedes-Benz Metris, featuring an array of exterior and interior modifications that make it worthy of the Maybach badge. While this is not the first luxury-inspired build based on a Metris / V-Class, it is certainly one of the most convincing. This is mostly due to the design of the custom bodykit which is mirroring the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class and GLS models with a heavy dose of chrome on the white-painted body.

The transformation includes a chrome grille with vertical slits at the front, a Maybach ornament on the bonnet, and a custom bumper with chrome-infused wide intakes. The full-LED graphics of the headlights also contribute to the luxurious ambience. However, the highlight is the 19-inch polished wheels with Maybach center caps that dominate the profile.

Similar modifications can be found at the rear end, where the new LED taillights make it look a lot more modern than the stock Metris. The rear bumper is also bespoke with faux quad tailpipes similar to those found in various models from Mercedes’ range, although this one betrays the aftermarket nature of the build. Finally, the Maybach lettering and badge on the large tailgate make sure this van won’t be mistaken for a “humble” Mercedes.

If you thought the exterior was impressive, you should have a look inside the spacious cabin which has been thoroughly upgraded with a bespoke white/red theme. The quilted leather upholstery on the six individual seats and on the door cards looks factory-spec, as do the wood accents on the dashboard, center console, doors and seatbacks. The seats are power-adjustable, heated, and ventilated, with reclining backs, extendable footrests, folding tables, and massaging function for the rear passengers.

Interestingly, the dashboard has been converted to mimic the dual screen setup from the rest of the Mercedes range, although in the Metris the instrument cluster has analog dials, integrated within the same panel with the large infotainment touchscreen. The equipment has everything you could ask for including an illuminated ceiling, luxurious floor coverings, power-operated curtains, dual-zone climate control, a surround-view camera, a roof-mounted widescreen for the second row, and extra touchscreens allowing the rear passengers to control several features.

There are no modifications under the bonnet, so don’t expect any V12 badges. As with the stock Metris, the luxurious conversion comes fitted with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 208 hp and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque. Power is transmitted to the rear axle through a 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox. Unfortunately, the LCV-derived chassis also appears to be stock, missing Maybach features like an active air suspension setup that would certainly make it more appealing.

The unique Mercedes-Maybach Metris was up for grabs on Bring A Trailer, from a California dealership. It is accident-free with a clean Hawaii title and 1,400 miles (2,253 km) on the clock. It eventually sold for $181,000, which is a high number for a Metris-based van. Note that a brand-new genuine Mercedes-Maybach S-Class starts from around $185k, while offering a different level of technology in terms of chassis and ride comfort compared to the LCV-based Metris.
