Depreciation often strikes hard in the car world, and it hit this Mercedes-AMG SL 55 like a hammer. When the gavel hit the table at an online auction earlier this month, the V8-powered roadster sold for a five-digit amount.
According to the paperwork accompanying the ad on Cars&Bids, this 2023 Mercedes-AMG SL 55 originally retailed for $156,235. The seller, a used car dealer, accepted a $96,000 offer, which means that this open-top machine lost over $60,000 in value since it rolled off the line.
Mind you, it is far from being the cheapest new-gen SL 55, as at the time of writing, we encountered some that were on sale for under $80,000. The priciest were listed for over $100,000, and we also came across some fetching in excess of $120,000. By comparison, a brand-new one will set you back $144,650 plus destination and dealer fees.
This Mercedes-AMG SL 55 has a clean Florida title, a white paint finish, a red soft top, a black interior, and around 1,700 miles (~2,700 km) on the odo. Thus, it’s an almost brand-new example. The Carfax report reveals that it hasn’t been involved in any accidents. The only known flaws are some scuffs on the front seatbacks, and the tinted windows are said to be the only modification.
It also has a recent service entry, during which the engine oil, filter, and wiper blades were replaced, and all recall campaigns were covered. Some of the equipment includes the four-wheel steering system, 20-inch alloys, exterior chrome package, Nappa leather upholstery, heated, ventilated, and power-adjustable front seats with massage, neck-level heating, dual-zone climate control, Burmester audio, smartphone connectivity, HUD, etc.
Offered with the sale were two keys and the owner’s manual. The seller also explained that this 2023 Mercedes-AMG SL 55 is covered by the remainder of its factory warranty and a 1-year/unlimited miles warranty that begins when the factory one expires.
Powering the new-gen SL 55 is a 4.0L bi-turbo V8 that produces 516 pound-foot (700 Nm) of torque and 469 horsepower (476 ps/350 kW). The handcrafted V8 motor enables 0-60 mph (0 to 97 kph) in 3.8 seconds, three-tenths of a second slower than the SL 63, which has 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque and 577 horsepower (585 ps/430 kW).
Now, back to the pictured copy, we have to stress the fact that these were 1,700 very expensive miles for the car’s first owner. We also have to congratulate the new owner for this great buy, and if we were in their shoes, we’d constantly keep an eye on the SL 55’s value, as it could go further down. You can still access the original listing on Cars&Bids here. Before you do, are you jealous you didn’t get the chance to buy this roadster?
