Over in the United States, Mercedes-Benz is fighting premium brands like BMW, Cadillac, Lexus, and Porsche with a massive roster of models. But do you think that’s enough?
There are EVs, SUVs, sedans and wagons, coupes, convertibles, and roadsters. We all know that the EV revolution is stalling a little bit these days, and Mercedes doesn’t have the best-looking all-electric models, but there are still six models to choose from: EQB, EQE Sedan, and SUV, EQS Sedan, and SUV, plus the ritzy EQS SUV by Maybach.
The crossovers and SUVs are many and plentiful, too: GLA, GLB, GLC and GLC Coupe, GLE and GLE Coupe, GLS and its Maybach version, as well as the timeless G-Class off-roader. The sedans and wagons include the C-Class, E-Class, and S-Class with Maybach version, plus the E-Class All Terrain. With the CLA, CLE Coupe, and CLE Cabriolet, we enter into sporty territory, so it’s time for AMG to spring into action, too.
However, the dedicated AMG roster is a little slim and fit – the older GT 4-Door Coupe, plus the newer second-generation GT Coupe and its SL roadster sibling. Sure, AMG rocks at least one version for each classic Mercedes-Benz model, but maybe fans of the brand from Affalterbach would like to see AMG blossom as a veritable sub-brand with its separate roster.
As such, it is no wonder that enthusiasts would love to see another model or two come out from AMG – and that includes the imaginative members of the dream guild of digital car content creators that inhabit the parallel universes of vehicular CGI. No worries, they also have the proper solutions to the conundrum – such is the case with Giorgi Tedoradze, the Georgia-based industrial designer better known as tedoradze.giorgi on social media, who has a quick CGI idea regarding the next Mercedes.
In his unofficial, hypothetical vision, a fresh Mercedes-AMG SLA is coming for model year 2027, and upholding the tradition of Benz models like the A-Class or GLA being the entry points into the passenger car or crossover SUV categories, so too the fake SLA would represent a base model for the dedicated AMG lineup, positioned below the GT and SL just like Porsche has the 718 below the 911 series.
As such, it is no wonder that the pixel master has imagined the 2027 Mercedes-AMG SLA design project as a direct competitor for the current Porsche 718 Cayman. The style is similar – there’s a big grille up front in the lower portion, a low-slung front hood, a recessed cockpit, a muscly profile with big alloy wheels, as well as a daring rear end with a small window and big tailpipes to signal there’s still a gasoline-eating heart beating under the hood.
Alas, this Mercedes doesn’t have the engine in the middle like the Porsche 718 Cayman; it’s still perched up front behind that Panamericana grille and the big three-pointed star. So, which one would you choose – this dreamy AMG or the real world’s 718 Cayman?
