Mercedes-AMG GT2 PRO: The Ultimate Track Tool By Mercedes-AMG

Push-to-pass, increased power, and better ergonomics are all part of the new powerful GT2 Pro.

Customer racing is key to AMG’s racing success. After all, like Porsche and Corvette, Mercedes doesn’t actually run a factory team in any form of sports car racing. So the folks who own teams, and even some individual owner/operators are key to AMG’s success. After all, the AMG team is a bit busy with Formula 1.

Mercedes calls it a GT2 Pro, but you can think of it more like a GT2 Evo. The bones are from the GT2 we’re all familiar with, now with some added tech to make life easier for the driver behind the wheel. It’s also a step up from the GT3, which has seen its own success.

Power comes from the venerable 4.0 twin turbo V8. Overboost is offered, bringing output to 750 horsepower “for a while” according to Mercedes. With a little bit less wind going through the turbos, you’ll be controlling 707 horses. The gearbox is carried over from the GT2, being a transaxle unit mounted at the rear. This now sits in contrast to the newest iteration of the AMG GT.

AMG knows that race cars are not exactly as comfortable as a 600 Grosser, but they have made improvements for the folks that find themselves in the GT racer. E-sports played a part in the interior, being directly responsible for the “CUBE CONTROLS” steering wheel. And for the folks doing endurance racing, they’ll be awash in air conditioning.

But it’s still a full-on racer. Shocks are 4 way adjustable, and if that kinda tech is a bit overwhelming for the driver, there’s AMG support from the factory. Buy a GT2 Pro, and AMG places you first in line for advanced ar setup and driver training. Both resources come from AMG’s own pool of instructors and engineers. So even though there won’t be a factory backed effort, it’s basically a factory backed effort. Well played, AMG.

Homologation hasn’t happened for any series yet, though the old one was a shoe-in for SRO here in the states. We believe the GT2 Pro will do the same, but it’ll be interesting if the P2P get’s a green light.
