Some say they’d rather have a BMW X6 M or an Audi RS Q8 over Mercedes-AMG’s GLE 63 S Coupe, and we’d normally reveal our (ok, my) opinion, though we will refrain from doing that in this instance and talk you through some of the aspects that make the three-pointed star’s pictured super crossover coupe stand out.
Notice how we said ‘stand out’ and not ‘hotter?’ That’s because it looks better in OEM configuration. However, not everyone may agree, and we would totally understand it. After all, looks are subjective, and as my colleagues often say, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. However, sometimes the beholder needs glasses. But we promised I’d keep myself to myself, so let’s move on to the pictured bulky machine.
Larte Design shared these pictures on social media earlier in the week, with the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe posing against Atlanta’s skyline in Georgia. Can you tell what the modifications are? If you said the hood, it is one of them, as it features a bit too many creases. The splitter attached to the bumper also came from the quoted tuner’s portfolio. We were also tempted to say that the side skirts are new, yet upon comparing this high-rider to its stock self, we quickly found out that these components are stock.
The tuner barely touched the grille with its magic stick, giving it a few red touches on two slats. This color can also be seen on other components, like the apron mentioned above and the side mirror casings. The rear diffuser also sports a touch of red on it and has a more aggressive design with two incorporated brake lights in the middle. The roof-mounted wing is another extra, and so is the ducktail spoiler glued to the tailgate.
Since we mentioned the red hue, we might as well talk about the wheels, as these also have a bit too much red on them. The Forgiato center caps reveal the company behind them. These alloys sport a bi-tone look and feature an intricate pattern that kind of works with the rest of the car’s exterior. We don’t know the size, though for what it is worth, the new wheels appear to be bigger than the ones normally equipping the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S 4Matic+ Coupe from the factory.
This German super crossover has a satin black look contrasted by the above mentioned red elements, and if there is one thing that we like about it, it is the fighter jet-like appearance. Larte Design was kind enough to open the door and reveal the cockpit in the images it shared on Instagram recently. The vehicle uses the same color combo, mixing red and black throughout the cabin, which is also sprinkled with some carbon fiber trim and features the usual shiny accents on various components.
We cannot tell you whether this Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe’s red and black cockpit is custom or if the owner selected this configuration before their super crossover hit the assembly line. But what we can tell you is that the design fits the exterior like a glove. However, deep down, we wished this machine had a satin-black appearance on the outside, different wheels, and a fully black interior. We would have also liked it better if it came with white leather upholstery on the seats. But hey, it is what it is.
Don’t close this tab yet, as we still have to talk about the motor. That’s right; the pictured Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe boasts more power than its stock self courtesy of the quoted tuning company, which claims that the output is now rated at 718 horsepower. This translates to 728 metric horses and 536 kilowatts, and it represents a decent boost compared to the standard GLE 63 S Coupe obtained by fitting the car with a new exhaust system and by fiddling with the ECU.
The tuned GLE 63 S Coupe will run out of breath at 175 miles an hour or 282 kilometers per hour and takes a claimed 2.9 seconds to sprint to the 60 mph (97 kph) mark. Are you curious how it compares to the standard variant? Well, the latter is eight-tenths of a second slower and comes with 603 horsepower (612 ps/450 kW) straight from the factory, produced by its bi-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine.
Overall, this Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe is not bad, but it is far from being our cup of tea. Nevertheless, we promise we will still be friends if it is yours, as everyone has their guilty pleasure, right? So, feel free to head down to the comments and drop an honest line about it, and don’t forget to tell us if you’d pick this model over the X6 M or RS Q8. I’d likely stick to the latter.
