Mercedes-Benz model is so new that the German automaker hasn’t even announced it. A new addition to the GLE Coupe lineup lets buyers step into the curvier Benz SUV without the need to pair it with AMG horsepower, rubber band tires, and a firmer suspension.
It’s the 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 Coupe, and it’s the most affordable way to get into the more stylish but less aggressive version of the mid-sized crossover coupe. Obviously, without an AMG badge, it’s not nearly as spicy as the 53 and 63 variants, but that’s good news for your wallet, both at point of sale and the fuel pump.
A GLE Coupe For Budget Luxury Buyers
For nearly a decade, Mercedes-Benz has offered its GLE as what it calls a coupe. A heavily sloping roofline toward the rear instead of a practical boxy hatch is the signature of the crossover coupe style. Because slick means sporty, and both mean premium, the crossover coupe has been a luxury car trend for some time. Mercedes-Benz, though, has only offered the GLE Coupe to us in its high-performance AMG line – with powerful engines, aggressive performance-focused styling, and a very large price tag.
Now Mercedes-Benz is sharing the slick-back love, reintroducing a non-AMG variant. Like the GLE 450 SUV, the GLE 450 Coupe uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six with mild-hybrid boost. The engine delivers 375 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. Hardly a slug and able to hit 0-60 mph in just 5.3 seconds, the 450 pales in comparison to the 429-hp GLE 53 and the 603-hp V8 of the GLE 63 AMG model, but it also puts the Benz on equal ground with its competition, the BMW X6. That crossover coupe has offered a non-M model for some time, by way of the also 375-hp (but 398-lb-ft) X6 xDrive40i model.
GLE Coupe Costs More, Delivers Less
The GLC 450 Coupe starts from $76,400, nearly $16,000 less than the GLE 53 AMG model. That’s a significant savings for buyers who don’t really need the extra horsepower and don’t really want the sporting pretensions that come with the AMG badge. You will still be paying a premium for the extra style, though. The price is $5,050 more than the SUV version of the vehicle.
That’s about $1,000 more for every cubic foot of cargo space the GLE Coupe doesn’t have. The GLE Coupe still offers fewer powertrain options than the SUV. That more upright model is offered as the plug-in hybrid GLE 450e as well as the V8-powered, 510-horse GLE 580 model. Features like the twin 12.3-inch screens, “Hey, Mercedes” keyword activation, and MBUX infotainment are also standard.
