Mercedes GLE family is about to welcome its second mid-cycle refresh. The three-pointed star brand is prepping both Benz and AMG versions of its executive crossover, as the idea is to keep milking it for as long as possible until it decides what approach is best for its successor.
If you forgot, the fourth-generation Mercedes GLE will turn seven this fall, and that’s quite old for a modern vehicle that competes against the likes of the BMW X5. The facelifted iteration was launched in early 2023 for the 2024 model year, and the upcoming one will probably be marketed as a 2026 or maybe a 2027 model in the New World. Nevertheless, we are not here to speak about the upcoming GLE but to tell you that the pictured copy is for sale, and you may want to pay attention to it, as it is an interesting ride.
First and foremost, the vehicle in question is a Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S. Second, it has fewer than 3,000 miles on the odometer, with the vendor stating that the mileage is 2,722 (4,381 km), adding that it still smells like a new car. And third, the asking price does not break the bank, as it actually costs about as much as a brand-new GLE, albeit in the Benz 450e configuration. More on the Benjamins in a few moments, as we have to tell you that this machine has an all black look, red brake calipers for contrast, and bi-tone alloys that mix black and silver. It also has other chrome elements on the outside, and we have to admit that it looks great.
But what about the cockpit? Well, one must really like red if they are thinking of making an offer, as this Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 has quite a lot of red leather upholstery, mixed with black. It also has red stitching, the usual silver trim, and the bits and bobs one might expect from a modern-day executive crossover with sporty credentials. The dual-screen is on deck, and so is ambient lighting, a flat-bottom steering wheel, a panoramic roof, carbon fiber trim, adaptive sport suspension, and numerous technology and safety features.
Power comes from a 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8 that develops 603 bhp (612 ps/450 kW) and is good for 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) of torque. The three-pointed star brand quotes 3.7 seconds from 0 to 60 mph (97 kph). A new Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S 4Matic+ SUV will set you back at least $131,800 in the U.S., before destination, options, and dealer fees. This one, though, costs a much more decent $89,980, and that is pretty much brand-new Mercedes-Benz GLE 450e territory, though the latter will be a very well-equipped car. So, would you buy this AMG?
