Limited to just 150 examples sold worldwide, back in April, the fresh Mercedes-Maybach S 680 by Virgil Abloh was unveiled with some of the most exclusive looks and features all around to make it the very definition of opulence – at least as far as S-Class limousines are concerned.

The Mercedes-Benz W223 is the seventh iteration of the iconic S-Class series, and the German automaker started production in 2020 to replace the W222 generation that appeared seven years earlier. Since then, the carmaker has never missed a chance to make the four-door full-size luxury car more powerful and exotic, or both.

For example, the base engines are ‘meager’ 2.9-liter and 3.0L diesel or gasoline inline-six mills, but one can easily upgrade to bi-turbo V8s with or without electric aid and a 6.0-liter M279 twin-turbo V12. As such, people can choose to go after the Mercedes-AMG performance to the tune of S 63 E and pack a combined 791 horsepower, or they can have protection and luxury with the Mercedes-Benz S 680 Guard or S 680 Haute Voiture.

Obviously, Mercedes-Benz is not beyond wacky fashion partnerships – remember the stunningly cool or ugly (depending on your POV) Mercedes-Benz x Moncler Project Mondo G? But their collaboration with the late American fashion designer Virgil Abloh, one of the most influential and respected of his generation, on the S-Class just takes the series to the next level without introducing too many outrageous elements.

The model’s official name – 2023 Mercedes-Maybach S 680 by Virgil Abloh, almost says it all, including the exclusivity of 150 examples and the combination of sand hue for the low parts of the body with a pinstripe to separate it from the Obsidian Black above it. The interior features a matching color scheme, and there are all sorts of perks to make it a tad more exclusive for the customer. But what if the owner wanted a little more to ensure their car would stand out in any crowd?

No worries, because the good folks over at Atlanta, Georgia-based Road Show International, have a ‘subtle’ treat that may or may not cause fans to run amok crying for their S-Class. Somehow they got access to one of the 150 units of the limited edition and gave it a taste of their RS Edition goodies. For example, the first thing you’ll notice about the exterior is the new concave wire-wheel-style 22-inch aftermarket wheels that were painted to match the base tone of the limousine.

If you ask us, the suspension was also lowered by 20 mm to give a sportier impression – or at least that of Aladdin’s magic carpet ride. Because you can never have enough illuminated stuff, now also the Maybach logo on the trunk is lit, and there’s also the mandatory RS Smoke Exterior Lighting Package plus the RS Nano-Ceramic Window Tint + Windshield, as well as the two-tone black/red RS Edition tag frame. And all is protected by the ceramic paint coating – meaning we have reached the bottom of the modifications list. After all, you don’t mess (too much) with near perfection, right?

Otherwise, this is your ‘typical’ V12-powered luxury sedan featuring the house’s 6.0-liter V12 engine rocking 621 horsepower. That would be enough to get the fashionable behemoth to 62 mph in just three seconds (just like your ‘average’ supercar, of course) and then on to a limited top speed of just 155 mph (250 kph). Would that be enough, sir or ma’am?
