Electrification is the future and Mercedes-AMG is embracing it as spy photographers have snapped the upcoming GT 53 E Performance.

The plug-in hybrid is heavily disguised, but it will follow in the footsteps of the SL 53 E Performance that was spied undisguised earlier this year.

That being said, the GT will eschew a soft top and feature unique fascias with different lighting units. However, both will share a charging port that is integrated into the rear bumper.
Inside, we can expect a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and an 11.9-inch infotainment system with a portrait orientation. While those items should carryover from the SL, it remains unclear if the convertible’s 2+2 seating configuration will come along for the ride.

Power will likely be provided by a plug-in hybrid powertrain that is shared with the C 63 S E Performance. As a result, the coupe could have a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a rear-mounted electric motor that is powered by a 6.1 kWh battery pack. This setup gives the sedan a combined output of 671 hp (500 kW / 680 PS) and 752 lb-ft (1,020 Nm) of torque. It enables the car to rocket from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 3.4 seconds, hit a top speed of up to 174 mph (280 km/h), and travel 8 miles (13 km) on electricity alone.
Fans looking for more power can expect to see a GT 63 S E Performance with a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8, a rear-mounted electric motor, and a 6.1 kWh battery pack. That version should have a combined output of 831 hp (620 kW / 843 PS) and more than 1,032 lb-ft (1,400 Nm) of torque.
