Mercedes-Maybach SL To Debut At Monterey Car Week

Mercedes-Benz will use the backdrop of this month’s 2024 Monterey Car Week to present the first Maybach-enhanced SL, the automaker said on Thursday.
 

To be known as the Mercedes-Maybach SL, the car will make its debut on Aug. 18 on the concept lawn at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, the premier event of Monterey Car Week.
 
Mercedes hasn’t released any further information but camouflaged prototypes have been spotted in the past, revealing unique designs for the hood, fascias, and exhaust tips compared to the regular AMG SL. Also spotted on the prototypes was a typical Maybach grille with thin vertical slats, a motif inspired by a pinstripe suit.
 
A teaser photo of a Maybach SL concept released in 2022 showed a red car with a contrasting black hood littered with tiny Maybach logos, a detail that may be offered as an option on the production model.
 

The launch of the Maybach SL is part of Mercedes’ strategy announced in 2022 in which the automaker plans to focus more on lower-volume, higher-margin vehicles. Since then, Mercedes has added a Maybach EQS SUV and previewed an SL speedster. The latter will be the first member of a new Mythos series of in-house coachbuilt specials.
 
Monterey Car Week runs Aug. 9-18. Mercedes will also use the event to present the Maybach S680 Edition Nordic Glow. The limited-edition sedan will be built in a run of 50 units, exclusively for the U.S. market.
 
Mercedes will also present in Monterey a special-edition AMG GT3 race car. The car was developed to celebrate the 130th anniversary of Mercedes’ role in motorsports, and will be limited to 13 units. Mercedes hasn’t said in what markets the car will be offered.
