Some say there is no race between Rolls-Royce, Bentley, and Mercedes-Maybach, as the former builds the best cars, period. That may be true when it comes to the Phantom land yacht, but the Ghost, Flying Spur, and S-Class are quite close to each other.
Anyone who has been fortunate enough to drive both three likely has a favorite, and if yours is the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, then stick around, as we won’t bash it in this story. No sir (and ma’am), as what we’ll do instead is revisit the Haute Voiture model that debuted nearly two years ago, as we just came across one that’s looking for a new home.
First things first, let’s remind ourselves a bit about this vehicle, starting with the eponymous concept that previewed it in 2022. Well, Mercedes may have called it a study, but it was actually a pre-production model. Roughly half a year after the concept made its premiere, the three-pointed star brand’s luxury division pulled the wraps off its production version.
As you can imagine from a high-end machine, the Mercedes-Maybach S 680 Haute Voiture benefits from several enhancements, like the surround lighting with animated projection and a two-tone exterior finish. In the cabin, it comes with gold, rose gold, beige, and blue accents. The Crystal White leather upholstery makes it look extremely lively. The floor mats are on the exclusive side of things, too, as they’re made of linen and mohair. The blue piping provides some contrast to the whole thing, and rose gold champagne flutes are on deck as well.
Mercedes took extra care of the S 680 while turning it into the Haute Voiture Edition, as it also gave it sparkling glitter clouds in the MBUX infotainment system. These are said to “emphasize the catwalk atmosphere.” Accompanying the car is a bag collection, a car cover with the Haute Voiture and Maybach logos, and a scale model. And they were all offered at no extra cost when this model was still on sale.
As its name implies, the Mercedes-Maybach Haute Voiture builds on the S 680 variant. This means that it doesn’t pack a V8 motor under the hood, but the 6.0-liter V12 with twin turbocharging. The engine is good for 664 pound-foot (900 Nm) of torque and generates 621 horsepower (630 ps/463 kW). A 9sp transmission delivers everything to the AWD system. The manufacturer claims 0-60 mph (97 kph) is dealt with in four and a half seconds, which is not bad at all for a luxury sedan.
Besides the special accouterments, the Mercedes-Maybach S 680 Haute Voiture is also a limited edition. That’s right, you didn’t think the company was going to build too many of them, did you? Only 150 copies saw the light of day, so coming across one that’s looking for a new owner can be tricky. We found a couple offered for sale at the time of writing, and the pictured one is probably the most interesting. After all, it comes only with the delivery miles under its belt, so it’s a brand-new machine ready to hit the road in the utmost comfort.
As you can expect from such an exclusive and posh vehicle, it benefits from a whole bunch of features. The ad, which we will link in a few moments, lists all of them and also reveals the asking price of this Light Rose / Nautical Blue on top of the White leather interior car. So, how much would it be to park it in your garage? A lot of money, actually, but then again, you didn’t think it was pennies on the dollar, did you? After all, we’re talking about a modern-day brand-new Maybach that features numerous goodies and remains committed to the V12 recipe (as any luxury car should!).
But enough babbling about it, as it’s now time to reveal how much this Mercedes-Maybach S 680 Haute Voiture costs. The answer is €487,662, and it comes out to $534,094 at the current exchange rates. The price includes tax, and Hollmann International has been tasked with finding a new home for this luxury cruiser.
You can access the online listing here and read about the special features of this car, but before you do, we will remind you that a brand-new Mercedes-Maybach S 680 will set you back $234,300 (before destination and dealer markups) in the United States. If you can live with a V8-powered Maybach S-Class, then the S 580 could be the right choice for you, as it starts at $198,300. This model enjoys 516 pound-foot (700 Nm) and 496 horsepower (503 ps/370 kW) and is only two-tenths of a second slower than the S 680.
So, would you blow over half a million dollars on the pictured Haute Voiture if you were shopping for a luxury sedan, or would you buy a new S 580 or S 680 instead? Keep in mind that the Rolls-Royce Ghost and Bentley Flying Spur are also very good.
