Like all luxury vehicles (and not only), the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class looks best in stock form. Okay, you can change the wheels on yours if you want a bit more exclusivity, but other than that, you shouldn’t do anything else to it.
Begging to differ, Mansory has taken on such a model, heading to social media recently to release images of it. The car in question is a Mercedes-Maybach S 680, aka the range-topping flavor of the range, and typical to the tuner, it is an OTT proposal.
The first thing that stands out is the new paint finish. Applied to all body panels and the wheels, Mansory calls it China Blue, and you can also see it on the add-ons. These comprise the vent surrounds and chin spoiler up front, front fender attachments, side skirts, rear bumper pieces, trunk lid and roof spoilers, and a new diffuser with cutouts for the quad exhaust tip trim and a brake light mounted in the middle.
For once, Mansory hasn’t replaced the OEM logos with its own badges, though it has given this luxury sedan extra lights up front. The wheels also came from their portfolio, and they’re larger than the stock ones. There is no visible chrome anymore, as every shiny part was given the China Blue treatment. Moreover, the interior was not fully uncovered, though we can see that it is all about white leather upholstery that likely doesn’t bear the tuner’s signature.
There is no reference to a possible power boost either, but we know that Mansory has such a mod on its shelves for both the S 580 and S 680 versions of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. The latter improves the output and torque by 106 hp (108 ps/79 kW) and 74 lb-ft (100 Nm), and the former by 96 hp (97 ps/71 kW) and 89 lb-ft (120 Nm).
Without modifications, the bi-turbo 6.0-liter V12 engine powering the Maybach S 680 produces 621 hp (630 ps/463 kW) and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) of torque. The three-pointed star says the 0-60 mph (0-97 kph) takes four and a half seconds, and the car returns 12 and 20 mpg (19.6/11.8 l/100 km) in the city and on the highway, respectively. Pricing for this model starts at $229,000.
The lesser Maybach S 580 uses a V8 power unit with twin turbos and a 4.0-liter displacement, which develops 496 hp (500 ps/368 kW) and 516 pound-feet (700 Nm) of torque. The sprint time is a 4.7-second affair, and the city/highway fuel economy is 15/25 mpg (15.7/9.4 l/100 km). For a brand-new S 580 in the Maybach configuration, interested parties are looking at a minimum $193,400. The normal Benz S-Class has an MSRP of $114,500 stateside.
