With more than 500 horsepower, tasteful performance upgrades, and under 100,000 miles, this E63 AMG Wagon has us eyeing W211 models.

It seems that nobody really has an answer as to why, but we car enthusiasts sure love a performance station wagon. Sure, the practicalities of a station wagon are obvious. But when you blend those practicalities with a good amount of power, car enthusiasts come out of the woodwork to admire it. We’re not implying this is a bad thing. We’re part of the crowd coming out of the woodwork. That’s why we’re here to tell you about how the W211 E63 AMG is starting to look like a truly killer performance station wagon bargain.
This particular example recently sold on Cars and Bids. It’s a 2007 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG wagon with the desirable black-on-black color/interior combo and 79,000 miles on the odometer. It recently sold for a final hammer price of $33,313, which has us thinking. In the world of 500-plus horsepower station wagons you can buy in the U.S., options are quite slim. Taking into consideration that the $33,000 winning bid isn’t a monumental jump in price compared to a sedan of similar spec and mileage, the W211 might just be the best performance wagon deal out there right now.
A Lot of Oomph for the Money
Under the hood of the W211 E63 AMG, you’ll find a 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8. In stock form, it delivers 507 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. Power makes its way to the rear wheels via a seven-speed automatic transmission. However, this particular example has some performance upgrades that bump those numbers up a hair. It has a Eurocharged ECU tune, Carbonio carbon fiber airbox, MBH Motorsports exhaust, and a Wavetrac limited-slip differential.

The Eurocharged website says the tube bumps the engine up to 514 horsepower, and the exhaust and intake setup might give it a hair more, too.
The LSD undoubtedly gives a substantial upgrade in the handling performance of this thing. In addition, the airbox assembly and exhaust give drivers the full experience of the roaring AMG V8 under the hood. The selling dealership provided a cold-start video and a sketchy one-handed driving acceleration video to demo the sound. It sounds absolutely phenomenal.
Best Wagon Bang for Your Buck
Let’s be frank, here. The only real competitor in this price range in the form of a V8 station wagon is the Cadillac CTS-V. That is, unless you count the R63 AMG as a wagon. But let’s be real; that’s a minivan. In case you missed it, the Cadillac CTS-V wagons are now pulling insane premiums. However, the highest-priced examples are manual-transmission models. In comparison, the E63 AMG offers a bit more refinement and luxury despite Cadillac’s best efforts at the time. For a hair over $30,000, these W211 powerhouse wagons are starting to look extremely tempting. We’ll have to keep a finger on the pulse of the market and see if any others come up for sale!
