New Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe Looks Like A Sporty Grand Touring Wonder

Mercedes-AMG GT was so well received by the audience as an alternative to Porsche’s 911 that the Affalterbach brand gave it a new lease on life.
 

Therefore, the first generation, which was offered in numerous configurations and special editions, including a hot Black Series, among others, and was assembled between 2014 and 2022, made room for its successor. The second generation entered production in 2023 at the Sindelfingen assembly plant in Germany, and it is a 2+2 liftback that shares its nuts and bolts with the latest SL roadster.
 
We expect the three-pointed star brand’s performance division to give it a star-studded makeover with refreshed lighting units and new bumpers at both ends, and maybe some minor changes in the cockpit, in one or two years. The mid-cycle refresh should keep the two-door Mercedes-AMG GT on the competitive side of its class for a few more years, until the automaker decides what road to take for a possible future generation.
 
As a result, we do not expect an all-new Mercedes-AMG GT until perhaps after the turn of the decade. However, that hasn’t stopped the rendering world from imagining it. We first saw this unofficial take on the said model earlier this month, when @frederic.lesciellour took to social media to present a few digital illustrations. More recently, the same independent artist has imagined the same project in a few different landscapes.
 

But is it any good, from a visual perspective? The rendered sporty grand tourer looks a bit smaller than the current GT, and due to the very short side windows and muscular shoulders, as well as the long hood, it kind of sends Aston Martin Vanquish vibes. But there is nothing Aston-ish about its front fascia, which is typical for modern AMGs with its Panamericana grille decorated by the automaker’s logo.
 
The sweptback headlights lack the starry makeover, but they are not bad at all. We can also see that it has hidden door handles, some extra-thin side mirrors, vents behind the front wheels, aggressive side skirts, and large air intakes in the front bumper. The roofline is a bit sloping, and the rear windscreen is very arched. There is also a rather big deck at the rear, as well as a bumper that looks very similar to the front one. The thin light strip at the rear makes it look quite futuristic, and even the wheels are not bad at all.
 
As you can probably tell, we are fans of the styling and would easily see something like this in Mercedes-AMG’s portfolio, positioned below the GT (ahem, SLK/SLC), and perhaps targeting the upcoming Porsche 718 Cayman, and maybe the 718 Boxster too, if it had an open-top view of the sky above.
