Mercedes-AMG has expanded its reach in the Land Down Under by introducing a special edition version of the GLC 43 SUV and GLC 43 Coupe, which is called the Edition R and brings some interesting goodies to both models.
According to the three-pointed star brand, the AMG Dynamic Plus Package is on deck, featuring the selectable ‘Race’ driving mode in addition to the ‘Sport’ and ‘Sport+,’ as well as the dynamic engine mounts, and matte black 21-inch Y-spoke light alloys with aerodynamic optimization that spin around the red brake calipers.
Exterior color options for the new Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 4Matic SUV Edition R and GLC 43 4Matic Coupe Edition R include Graphite Gray, Verde Silver, High-Tech Silver, Spectral Blue, and Obsidian Black metallic hues. Customers can also choose between the Opalite White Bright, Patagonia Red Metallic, and Alpine Gray Solid, which are part of the Manufaktur range.
Is this where the automaker drew the line? Not quite, because the latest additions to the GLC and GLC Coupe families also feature some special goodies on the inside. These include the Artico and Microcut microfiber upholstery in black, stitched together with red string, red seatbelts, a distinctive metal structure trim on the dash and center console that is exclusive to these vehicles, AMG Real Performance Sound, a Burmester 3D surround sound audio system, and an AMG Performance steering wheel in Nappa leather and Microcut microfiber.
Elsewhere, the 2025 Edition R versions of the Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 and GLC 43 Coupe retain the usual items found on the rest of the family. These comprise stuff such as the two-zone climate control, a wireless charging pad, ambient lighting, a digital radio, smartphone integration, a panoramic sliding roof, tinted rear windows, a head-up display, a ‘transparent’ hood, a 360-degree camera system, and other bits and bobs that users will certainly appreciate on their daily commutes.
You don’t think that Mercedes-AMG has revised the engine of the two GLC 43 models for the Edition R, do you? Why, of course, it didn’t. As a result, the pair uses the same 2.0-liter four-banger with mild-hybrid assistance, with the latter supplementing the engine with up to 10 kW (14 ps/13 hp) and 150 Nm (111 lb-ft) of torque for faster bursts of acceleration. The combined output is 310 kW (421 ps/416 hp), and the total thrust stands at 500 Nm (369 lb-ft). An AMG Speedshift MCT 9G transmission delivers the power to the AWD system, enabling 0-100 kph (62 mph) in 4.8 seconds.
Mercedes says the two rides will be available in limited numbers in Australia, with the GLC 43 Edition R starting at AU$128,900 (US$77,845) MRLP and the GLC 43 Coupe Edition R at AU$141,600 (US$85,510). As a reminder, the 2025 GLC 43 SUV kicks off at US$67,100 (AU$111,080) in our market, and the 2025 GLC 43 Coupe is available from US$72,900 (AU$120,680).
