Mercedes G-Class is one of the few surviving motoring icons that can trace its design to the original. Sure, it has evolved massively these past few years, yet the average Joe probably cannot tell the difference between the new and old ones, and that’s a win in our book.
This highly versatile premium truck is the perfect companion for a quick getaway off the beaten path, a game of basketball with the gang, and dinner at a fancy restaurant with the missus, and it won’t look out of place anywhere. Unfortunately, it doesn’t get as much off-roading beating as it deserves, despite being a proper 4×4 with body-on-frame construction, as it has become a constant presence at shopping malls instead, where no curb can rest in peace.
With so many copies of the modern-day Mercedes G-Wagen being out there, cruising the roads of different countries on most continents, it is no wonder that some of those deep-pocketed owners want theirs to stand out. This is where tuners such as Carlex Design step in. Why mention this exact company? Because the pictured 4×4 came from their garage, and it is unlike anything you have seen (probably).
It is christened the Carlex G-Vantage Rose for obvious reasons. āGā stands for ‘G-Class,’ or ‘G 63’ in this case, ‘Vintage’ because it is a retro take on this model, and ‘Rose’ emphasizes its look inside and out. Some may say it is pink, and they wouldn’t be wrong, but we won’t delve into the color part, as we believe that the hue suits this project, especially with the extra chrome on the front and rear bumpers, on the window surrounds, roof, doors, and other body panels.
The bi-tone look is complemented by the fresh alloys that also have retro vibes. They were shod in normal street tires, so you won’t do any off-roading in this G-Wagen. But then again, this particular build is not meant to be an off-roader but more of a fashion icon. Carlex Design’s logo proudly adorns the new grille, which has a similar tone to the bumper. The mirror casings came from this tuner’s portfolio as well, and if you haven’t noticed it yet, with all the things happening on this ride’s exterior, it also has fender flares.
Color aside, the interior is simply a masterpiece. This is where Carlex truly shines, as this tuner has become known worldwide for its exclusive custom cockpits crafted from the finest leather upholstery available. Almost every touchable component was reupholstered, and besides the leather and the occasional ‘Carlex’ embedding, we can also see some wood trim on the center console. More wood is visible in the cargo area, on the backs of the rear seats, and on the floor for a marine-like theme.
Elsewhere, this ride remains the typical modern-day Mercedes-AMG G 63, featuring the usual bi-screen setup and flashy ambient lighting. It has quite a few metallic touches for contrast and retains its large three-pointed star logo in the middle of the steering wheel. The equipment is extremely generous and includes everything that one could expect from a new premium truck, including plenty of ADAS features, so driving it should be a peach (pun intended) in most scenarios.
Unless you forgot, Carlex Design does not offer power boosts, so the pictured Mercedes-AMG G 63, which became the G-Vintage Rose, retains its original firepower with no extra oomph. What does this mean? That it has 627 pound-foot (850 Nm) of torque on tap and 577 brake horsepower (585 ps/430 kW). A bi-turbo 4.0-liter V8 motor rests under the hood, which drives all four wheels through an automatic transmission. The standard G 63 takes 4.5 seconds from 0-62 mph (100 kph), though it has been recorded at under four seconds in certain tests, and that is impressive from a vehicle that’s shaped like a brick and weighs a lot.
This Carlex G-Vintage is in the possession of a used car dealer, and it is looking for a new home. The listing reveals that it has 155 miles (250 km) on the odo and a first registration dating back to last fall. Thus, it is a brand-new vehicle, and even if you won’t be its first owner, you will certainly enjoy a nicely crafted vehicle. However, if you must own it, your pockets should be very deep, as this is a ride for millionaires. No, it does not cost a million dollars, as the asking price is ā¬481,950, including tax, which comes out to $536,850 at today’s exchange rate.
We think it is worth every penny, as this is a G-Wagen that stands out for all the right reasons, and while that color may not be our cup of tea, we certainly wouldn’t be ashamed to be spotted behind the wheel. Quite the opposite. Hollmann International advertises it here, so you know what to do if you want it.
