Mercedes-AMG hasn’t exactly struck gold with the new-gen C 63 sports sedan due to its electrified four-pot. The model may be punchier than its V8-powered predecessor, but the less exciting soundtrack and the fact that it has four fewer cylinders have kept some enthusiasts away from it.
We were under the impression that the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance cannot fit a V8 motor under the hood. But we were wrong. Coming to prove the opposite is an Austrian tuner known as VUK Manufaktur. The company recently took to its social media to reveal a V8 conversion of the model, which is fully functional.
According to one of the Instagram posts embedded at the bottom of this story, VUK Manufaktur spent no fewer than two years working on the heart transplant. The car debuted in the fall of 2022, which means that the tuner received it shortly after production commenced. Needless to say that their conversion is pure fire, as this is what the new-gen C 63 should have been all along.
Details surrounding the engine are yet to be released. However, it appears that the Austrian company chose the familiar 4.0-liter bi-turbo unit. This V8 engine powers a whole bunch of other AMG models, and we reckon it wasn’t easy to stuff it under the hood of the plug-in hybrid model, which doesn’t feature the electric motors and the battery pack anymore.
If we were to guess, we’d also say that the tuner replaced the nine-speed automatic transmission with a different one, probably a seven-speed unit from an older AMG. As mentioned above, the car is fully functional and it recently fired up its fire-breathing V8, sounding astonishing. Now this is a soundtrack worthy of an AMG, and if the new C 63 would have been like this, then it would have definitely stole some customers from its arch rival at BMW, the M3.
We are curious to know more about this conversion, including the amount of power and thrust the V8 motor unleashes and how fast the car is in a straight line. A head-to-head comparison with a stock Mercedes-AMG C 63 S E Performance would be awesome. However, in the meantime, we will remind you that the latter comes with 670 hp (680 ps/500 kW) combined and 752 lb-ft (1,020 Nm).
Its electrified 2.0L four-banger enables 0-62 mph (0 to 100 kph) in 3.4 seconds, which is about as fast as the M3 and the model tops out at 174 mph (280 kph). While it may have the numbers on its side, the C 63 S E Performance lacks in spirit and craves a V8 powerplant. Just watch and listen to this conversion if you don’t believe us.
