Mercedes G-Wagen EMC Wolf Puts An American Twist On Its Ruggedly Handsome

If you want a plushy, shiny G-Class that your favorite Hollywood celebrity drives, you can head to the nearest Mercedes-Benz dealer and spend around $150,000 on that. But if you want something more exclusive and unique, Expedition Motor Company (EMC) has what you’re looking for, the Wolf G-Wagen. With its own flair and style, the New Jersey-based builder has put an American twist on its sole product for more oomph with a modern touch.

EMC has been making Wolf G-Wagen 250GDs for ages, since 2017, and has built over 160 examples of restored and modified 1990s-era SUVs using retired military Gs. The company usually would use the 2.5-liter inline-five OM602.930 diesel engines for its builds, but that changes now. For the first time, EMC offers its Wolf G-Wagen powered by an LS3 V8, and calls it the 620GE.

Classic Geländewagen With An American V8
Replacing the bulletproof OM602 oil burner is a beefy 6.2-liter V8 that puts down 350 horsepower to the ground. That’s the detuned version for comfortable power delivery, but customers can specify theirs with up to 430 hp – which is more power than Land Rover’s classic Defender restomod, also powered by a naturally aspirated V8, and almost as potent as the inline-six-powered version of the latest 2025 G-Class.

To support the bigger LS3 V8 mill, EMC developed a cooling system and a double cardan driveline, capable of handling the added power output. EMC also developed a suspension setup for the 620GE, while the brakes are enhanced using a Mercedes-AMG system with enlarged, ventilated rotors, resulting in increased braking power by 48 percent at the front and 30 percent at the back.

A Touch Of Modern Convenience To Complement Classic Looks
Like the diesel-powered Wolf G-Wagen, the EMC 620GE went through 2,300 hours of rigorous restomod process to ensure quality. While the exterior remains faithful to the two-door, drop-top design of the original Geländewagen, EMC adds a little bit of a modern touch in the cabin, such as wireless Apple CarPlay, a Harman 6.1 audio system, air conditioning, heated seats, and a backup camera. Then again, the weatherproof upholstery keeps the classic appeal, with 40 interior colors to choose from.

If you like what you’re seeing here, know that EMC is only offering limited slots for its V8-powered 620GE, amounting to only six commissions this year. Each SUV has a starting price of $215,000, which is $50,000 more than the diesel-powered 250GD. To be fair, that’s not an unreasonable price to pay for that added power and all the other modifications that come with it.
