Mercedes-AMG G 63 Convertible Looks Even Better Wearing Rolls-Royce Paint

A supercar dealer called Refined Marques revealed its first bespoke creation at the end of last year, a $1.3 million cabriolet based on the Mercedes-AMG G63. Born from a suggestion made by his then-five-year-old son, the dealer’s CEO, Ahmed Al Bakry, decided that it would be more practical and more fun to have a drop-top G63 with suicide doors to enable easier ingress to the second row.
 

Originally intended to be a one-off, the creation generated so much interest that the company decided to make a run of 20 exclusive G63 Cabriolets, and this is the latest, finished in a stunning white-over-blue combination. As before, the 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 in the G63 is left unchanged, delivering an ample 577 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque, but that’s where the similarities to the stock SUV end.
 

$87,000 Rolls-Royce Paint
You may have heard that buyers of the new Mustang GTD supercar can specify a special color of their choosing, and if they’d like to be selfish, they can spend extra money on the lock-out option, which prevents other GTD buyers from choosing the same shade. Well, there’s no need for that here, as every one of the 20 G63 Cabriolets built by the company will be finished in its own color scheme, ensuring exclusivity. In the case of this example, that means White Pearl paint with a crystal flake sparkle. Al Bakry tells CarBuzz this paint is the same you can spec on your Rolls-Royce, only on the Roller, it’ll set you back 80,000 euros (~$87,000).
 
Inside, Electric Blue upholstery with double-stitched contrasting threads in white creates a pop of color that is evident even from outside the SUV. That’s true whether the soft-top is up or down, as this has been finished in Electric Blue, too. Also present are 24-inch wheels and carbon-fiber finishers for the side-exit exhaust tips. Presumably, customers can choose the design of the wheel and exhaust tip they want.

The fit and finish of the conversion are said to be at OEM levels, with no wavy stitching or leaky bodywork, and from the walkaround video below, that seems to be the case. That’s thanks to 18 months of intensive development in Germany with a team of former F1 and supercar experts handling the conversion, but if you don’t trust an aftermarket outfit, your only option is to look at the used market. Mercedes did once produce a drop-top G500 Final Edition, but only 12 of these were ever made, and they never worse an AMG badge.
 
There was also the Maybach-badged G650 Landaulet, but neither of those had a turbocharged AMG V8. The G500 featured a 5.5-liter naturally aspirated V8 with 382 hp, while the Maybach cabrio boasted a 6.0-liter twin-turbo AMG V12 with 621 hp and 737 lb-ft of torque. Interestingly, spy shots suggest that this ultra-expensive variant could return someday soon.
