Mercedes-Benz has been under scrutiny as of late because of the rather bland designs of some models, especially the all-electric passenger cars. To avoid the potential for increased controversy regarding their flagship S-Class limousine, here’s an independent proposal that has lots of personality. And then some more.
Audi has always been accused of diluting their personality to 0.1% levels by a part of the automotive fanbase, so when BMW started doing cars that were 150% ‘personality’ and minus 100% ‘normalcy,’ the folks over at Mercedes-Benz probably thought it’s safer to go down Audi’s alley. So, they made an experiment and created some of the most aerodynamic EVs out there – but the decision quickly backfired into countless jokes and memes about their styling.
Even some of the regular cars aren’t too far off Audi’s alley of going so safe in terms of design that you’re not going to recognize any of them if you can’t see the badges. Anyway, it’s clear that many folks don’t want that on models that cost tens of thousands of dollars and even hundreds of thousands of dollars if we’re to discuss the flagship S-Class limousine, for example.
As such, it’s no wonder that even the members of the imaginative guild of digital car content creators have stopped dwelling across the parallel universes of vehicular CGI to try and lend a helping hand. More precisely, the good folks over at Car Design World (aka cardesignworld on social media) tipped us off to this independent design project by Joaquin Obligado, who is better known as world_observer_ on the Internet.
By the way, this automotive designer knows what they’re doing – he previously worked at Pininfarina and Chery Design and currently resides in the offices of Changan Design. However, the pixel master isn’t gunning for something Chinese and instead has an interesting proposal for the upcoming next-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class. More precisely, he’s thinking about the Mercedes-AMG flagship limousine of the 2030s.
The CGI expert’s first variant is all black (‘murdered-out’ as some people on the West Coast would say), and looks pretty darn ready for a mobster congress, among other things. However, there’s also a version dressed in classic ‘Silver Arrow’ attire with dual-tone elements for the radiator grille, transparent roof, and the rear diffuser, plus the ‘Aeroblade’ wheels. That way it’s much easier to identify the design traits, of course.
Overall, this limousine has clearly defined styling elements – like the upright grille that wouldn’t look out of place with the Spirit of Ecstasy above it on a Rolls-Royce Phantom, the extra-long hood, the slim glass line, the massive wheels and rear doors, or the lip-style rear bumper. Additionally, the pixel master has an interesting proposal for the three-pointed star logo, too. In the same minimalist key as the LED headlights and taillights, the front and rear badges come with just the three silver elements of the star and without the classic roundel that surrounds them.
Additionally, the CGI expert doesn’t make his version of the Mercedes-AMG S-Class an all-electric model – in line with the current affinities of customers, the flagship limousine remains ICE-powered, as evidenced by the open radiator grille and the quad exhaust setup in the back. Of course, this doesn’t exclude an electrified option, as the current W223-based Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance is already mixing a V8 with an electric motor and churns out no less than 791 horsepower. So, what do you think?
