Mercedes has complemented its electric and gasoline versions of the G-Wagen with the addition of a diesel-powered model. It is called the Mercedes-Benz G 450 d and is now available to order in the Land Down Under.

Under the hood lies a 3.0-liter inline-six. The oil-burner has mild-hybrid tech with an integrated starter-generator and offers 270 kW (367 ps/362 hp) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque in total. The company says 0-100 kph (0 to 62 mph) takes 5.8 seconds in this model, which features the same ladder-frame construction as the rest of the series, as well as three mechanical differential locks, a low-range gearbox, independent front suspension, and a rigid rear axle.
Mercedes’ new G 450 d has a ground clearance of at least 241 mm (9.5 in) and a fording depth of 700 mm (27.6 in). The approach and departure angles are 31 and 30 degrees, respectively, and it can tackle side slopes of up to 35 degrees. Supporting drivers off the lit path is the Offroad Cockpit, providing different relevant data like the tilt, gradient, and differential status on the screens. The model sits on 18-inch wheels with a five-spoke design and benefits from LED headlights.

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz G 450 d comes with summer tires, and customers can order all-terrain rubber as a no-cost option. The Professional Exterior Package can be specified with the Offroad specification as an option, and the model can be further enhanced with other extras, like the Manufaktur Exterior Pack, Interior Comfort Pack, AMG Luxury Pack, Night Pack, Superior Line Interior Plus Pack, and others.
Some of the interior highlights include the Burmester 3D surround sound system, digital radio, MBUX augmented reality navigation system, MBUX entertainment system, sunroof, smartphone integration, open-pore natural walnut wood trim, etc. The Pre-Safe, active steering assist, active distance assist distronic, blind spot assist, and others are also included. Mercedes also mentions the additional passive person presence reminder, exit warning function, extended restart functionality, Guard 360, etc.

The latest addition to the 2026 Mercedes G-Class family in the Land Down Under is a compelling proposal, and you might wonder how much it costs. The answer is at least AU$214,900, which equals US$140,160 at the current exchange rate, and does not include any optional extras. The three-pointed star brand says that the first copies of the car have already arrived at retailers across the country, so you can inspect it in person.
Mercedes won’t launch the diesel-powered G-Wagen in the United States, as there is no market for such rides here. Thus, the lineup will continue to include the Benz G 550, the G 580 with EQ Technology, which is the electric offering, and the range-topping AMG G 63. These start at $148,250, $161,500, and $186,100, respectively.
