The AMG E-Class has been absent ever since Mercedes announced a new-generation E-Class family, and while everyone is clamoring for the big-daddy E63 – hopefully with a V8 engine, but rumored to have two fewer cylinders – for now, we have to embrace the hybrid AMG E53 with its inline-six engine. Mercedes-Benz USA has now announced final pricing for the only AMG E-Class ahead of its imminent launch for the 2025 model year. This is how much it’ll cost you.
Three Trims And Sub-6-Figure Pricing
Mercedes has only announced the price of the AMG E 53 Hybrid in sedan form, because the coupe and cabrio E-Classes are officially dead, replaced by the CLE-Class, which has its own AMG variants. For the four-door AMG sedan, you’ll pay $88,000 – approximately $6,700 more than the model it replaces – but that’s for the ‘base’ version, and Mercedes-AMG has three trim levels on offer with varying specifications:
An Inline-6 Powertrain To Rival The Old E63
The E63 is still coming, but the E53 is a great starting point, as it already makes an identical amount of power as the top dog did when it was last on sale. The combined performance claims from the hybrid 3.0-liter inline-six are 577 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque, but when the optional Race Start is specced and activated, you get a full 604 hp – one more pony than the Mercedes-AMG E63 made in 2023. But where the old V8 had to run on dinosaur juice all the time, the new plug-in hybrid system enables the E53 to cover 42 miles using nothing but electricity (EPA certified) from its 21.2 kWh battery, affording it mighty impressive gas mileage figures of 54/65/59 MPGe city/highway/combined.
As for the actual performance of the new AMG sedan, 0-60 mph takes just 3.7 seconds with Race Start and 3.9 seconds without it, while the top speed is limited by default to 155 mph. However, opt for the AMG Dynamic Plus package, and Mercedes will lift this limited to 174 mph. This package includes the aforementioned Race Start, but also adds the following:
– AMG High Performance Composite Brake System with 15.4-inch front brake discs and red six-piston calipers
– Electronic AMG limited-slip rear differential
– Dynamic engine mounts
– Raised top-speed limiter
– AMG Performance steering wheel in Nappa leather/microfiber
A Range Of Customization Options
Outside of the performance options, Mercedes lets you make the AMG E 53 your own with various customization packages and standalone options. These include 12 paint finishes including four Manufaktur hues, a choice of various wheel designs in 20- and 21-inch sizes, and three optional design packages:
– AMG Night Package
– AMG Night Package Plus
– AMG Exterior Carbon Fiber Package
The interior can be specced in leather or combinations of Nappa leather and MB-Tex, you can choose various steering wheel finishes, and the standard seats can be swapped out for the AMG performance Seat Package. As is standard for Mercedes, the trim inserts include everything from AMG Illuminated Natural Grain Grey Ash Wood (the default choice) to carbon fiber, piano black, and more. And, if you’re absolutely obsessed with having every screen you can, the MBUX Superscreen Package turns the dash into a trio of screens by adding a 12-inch display ahead of the front passenger, also adding a selfie/video camera so you can partake in online meetings when stationary.
