An AMG C63 Black Series dressed up as a modern-day Buick Grand National. I like that the MB’s fender flares give it GNX vibes.
Mercedes-Benz fans, do you remember the crazy CLK 63 AMG Black Series from 2007-2009, equipped on 500 units with the 6.2-liter M156 V8 and 500 crazy ponies? Or the cool follow-up, the Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG Coupe Black Series from 2011 to 2013? Who would have thought their design lines were perfect for a Buick?
Available solely with the sporty two-door coupe body style, the Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG Black Series had the same AMG M156 V8 engine but with 510 hp and 457 lb-ft of torque, making it even crazier both from the design and performance standpoint. The bonkers performance model easily hit 62 mph in 4.2 seconds and a maximum speed of 186 mph, while they also spilled the beginning of the end for Merc’s angular design era.
Since 2014, with the advent of the W205 C-Class, Mercedes-Benz has started implementing the current design language, and these models have become a slippery styling mess ever since. Plus, the current W206 doesn’t even have a burbling V8 under the hood anymore, as it fell prey to downsizing, and now the AMG C 63 S is an E Performance model based on a four-pot + EV motor assembly.
Sure, it has no less than 671 horsepower combined, but absolutely no personality isn’t an excuse. Anyway, if you want personality, then you can’t go wrong with the AMG C 63 Black Series – even if a member of the imaginative guild of digital car content creators has stopped dwelling across the parallel universes of vehicular CGI and decided some AMG tomfoolery is more than in order.
To be precise, Jim, a virtual artist known as jlord8 on social media, loves messing around with all things CGI from the automotive realm, and he dreams of a retro-modern Buick performance model with help from the bonkers Mercedes-AMG coupe. So, the pixel master has decided to play dress-up with the AMG Black Series coupe as a modern-day Buick Grand National and he especially like the extra Mercedes-Benz fender flares give it perfect GNX vibes.
It seems he’s on to something – as Mercedes-Benz was producing some cool boxy, sharp-angled cars at the time, and many people are tired of today’s “bulbous front ends that cater to the average, boring consumer.” Yep, Mercedes should take notice, and even Buick could do something about it. Of course, no one really expects a Grand National revival based on an early 2010s platform, even if there’s a V8 and 510 hp involved in the mix.
As such, all we can do is prey and hope that Mercedes will stop making boring cars on one side and that Buick will one day return to producing some of its legendary passenger cars, on the other side. Maybe if they both do that they might meet one day in the middle and surprise us… So, what do you think of this unofficial, hypothetical Buick Grand National revival design project?
