Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series has cemented itself as a true motorsport masterpiece! With a blistering lap time of 6:43.616 at the Nürburgring Nordschleife (20.6 km layout), this beast is officially the fastest standard production car on the track. Piloted by GT3 racer Maro Engel, the Black Series pushed boundaries with its 730-hp AMG V8 engine, race-inspired aerodynamics, and precise suspension adjustments. From roaring past 300 km/h on the Döttinger Höhe to carving through corners with unmatched agility, this car is in a league of its own.

Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series Shatters Nürburgring Lap Time! 6:43.616

Anything under seven minutes at the Nurburgring is a solid feat. AMG GT Black is on another level.

Normally, we’d talk about new cars breaking records at the Nürburgring. As is the case with progress, usually newer is faster. But that’s not the case with the 2021 AMG GT Black Series. You see, back in 2020, it got around the green hell in 6:48. Some 4 years later, it has aged like fine wine, and managed to scoop 5 seconds out of the timing equipment.

Was this new/old run meant to be a poke in the eye to Ford? One never knows for sure. However, there was a lot of fanfare for a Mustang being under the 7-minute mark. The Mustang GTD managed to do 6:57.6 which is impressively within 10 seconds of the AMG GT Black’s time.

But Mercedes does things a unique way. The best or nothing. So why not set the fastest production car record in the process? That’s exactly what happened. No Bridge to Gantry shenanigans here, this is the full Nurburgring layout. And, because it’s the full layout, it means there’s no “tourist” cars out there to spoil a run. So its now or never.

Driver Maro Engel is at the helm of this Black Series, and with the sun barely shining above the horizon, conditions are perfect. Cooler air means higher horsepower. Interestingly, this run came in the early morning before the track had any heat in it.

One really impressive thing to observe from this run is the driver’s body language. Cool, calm and collected. This is where the car’s speed likely comes from, as it effectively puts down 730 horsepower to the rear wheels. Compare that to the Mustang’s 800 and you have a direct measure of the superior car. More, with less. Especially when compared to the new AMG GT.

At the end of the day, we welcome the competition. The Mustang’s performance is very impressive from America’s sports car. Typically that performance was reserved for the mud engine GT. But the GTD and GT3 spec cars are sprouting some homologation specials of sorts. And that’s a good thing. Nothing else pushes a company towards new innovation and higher performance than a new player on the field.
